About Mònde

Mònde – Festival of Cinema on the Paths is Foggia's film festival dedicated to travel, walking routes, and cultural exchange. Founded in 2018 and directed by Luciano Toriello for the MAD – Memorie Audiovisive della Daunia association, it transforms the city every year into a vibrant hub of screenings, meetings, masterclasses, concerts, and urban walks. The entirely free program weaves together major names in international cinema, documentaries on pilgrimages, and the rediscovery of the Apulian territory.

A festival that tells the story of cinema as a journey

Mònde – Festival of Cinema on the Paths is the great festival of travel cinema that brings Foggia, in the heart of the Capitanata region of Puglia, to life every year. Founded in 2018 by the MAD – Memorie Audiovisive della Daunia association and directed by Luciano Toriello, the festival has made the theme of the path—physical, spiritual, and inner—its hallmark, creating a dialogue between the big screen and pilgrimage trails, the memory of places, and contemporary cultures.

For a few days, the city turns into an open, widespread space: arenas, theaters, squares, and historic buildings in the center host screenings, meetings with authors, masterclasses, concerts, photography exhibitions, and guided urban walks. All events are free and open to the public until capacity is reached, in line with the event's popular and inclusive spirit.

Sections and awards

The competitive heart of Mònde is organized into several thematic sections, each with its own award:

  • Panorama Cammini – competing for the Mònde Award, dedicated to films that depict travel as a way of traversing places;
  • Panorama Memoria – for the MAD Archive Award, focused on archival cinema and the audiovisual memories of the region;
  • Panorama Archeologia – for the Marina Mazzei Award, named after the archaeologist from Foggia and reserved for documentaries on heritage;
  • Panorama Kids & Generation – for the Mònde Kids Award, dedicated to younger audiences.

Alongside the competitions, there are retrospectives, special awards for cinema personalities, and a rich program of side events, from photography exhibitions to cine-concerts.

Guests and atmosphere

Over the years, Mònde has brought prominent names from Italian and international cinema to Foggia, alternating directors, actors, and masters of the seventh art with documentarians, hikers, and local scholars. The formula combines meetings with stars with theater workshops, outdoor screenings, and walking routes that rediscover corners and stories of the Daunia region.

Foggia and the Capitanata

Set in the Municipality of Foggia, capital of the Province of Foggia and gateway to Puglia towards the Gargano, the Tavoliere, and the southern Via Francigena, the festival showcases a territory rich in history, spirituality, and landscapes. Mònde is now one of the city's most defining cultural events, attracting thousands of spectators each year.

Mònde — edition 2026

The 9th edition of Mònde took place in Foggia from May 28 to 31, 2026, with the theme "The Unexpected": over 60 events, 21 feature films and more than 50 short films in competition, and international guests such as Kevin Spacey, Terry Gilliam, and Matthew Modine. Four free days of screenings, masterclasses, urban walks, and cine-concerts, with approximately 10,000 attendees.

The ninth edition of Mònde – Festival of Cinema on the Paths was held in Foggia from May 28 to 31, 2026, dedicated to the theme of "The Unexpected", that unplanned stumble that forces one to change pace, perspective, and direction. With over 60 events spread throughout the city, the event recorded approximately 10,000 attendees, confirming itself as one of the most followed cultural appointments in the Capitanata region.

The beating heart of the edition was the Mònde Arena at the Villa Comunale, accompanied by theaters and city spaces.
