The Nativity comes to life in the historic alleys of San Marco in Lamis
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, during the Christmas holidays, the historic Casalotto district in San Marco in Lamis, in the province of Foggia, comes alive with one of the most evocative living nativity scenes in the Gargano region. The narrow streets, alleys, and characteristic corners of the old town become the natural stage for a performance that recreates the atmosphere of Palestine from two thousand years ago. The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the local Catholic Action and the municipal administration, with the support of numerous local volunteers.
Along the path that winds through the district, performers in period costumes bring a choral fresco of the Nativity to life:
Admission is free and open to all, conceived as a moment of sharing, community, and appreciation of local cultural heritage.
Casalotto is one of the oldest cores of San Marco in Lamis: a maze of narrow streets, stairways, and courtyards that tell the story of the town. Walking through it during the living nativity also means rediscovering the charm of the historic center, with its evocative views illuminated for the occasion. In recent editions, the route has wound around Vicoletto Centola, with entrances and exits designed to manage visitor flow and allow everyone to appreciate each scene in peace.
Located at the foot of the Gargano Promontory in Puglia, San Marco in Lamis is a town deeply rooted in religious and popular traditions, also famous for its Fracchie on Good Friday. The Casalotto living nativity fits into this fabric of devotion and strong community identity: it is not just a sacred representation, but an opportunity for the community to come together and for visitors to discover one of the most authentic villages in the Province of Foggia during the most magical time of the year.
The dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition of the Casalotto Living Nativity have not yet been published.
