The Elite Men's tricolour jersey to be decided in a sprint beneath the Bisalta, in Cuneo
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Municipality of Cuneo, capital of the province of the same name in Piedmont, will host the finish of the Elite Men's road race at the Italian Road Cycling Championships. This is the event where the prestigious tricolour jersey is awarded, which the winner will wear for an entire year in all races on the international calendar. Following the 2025 edition held in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the championship returns to Piedmontese soil, choosing the Granda area as the stage for its highlight day.
The Elite Men's race starts in Asti and winds for over 230 kilometres before reaching Cuneo, with approximately 2,800 metres of total elevation gain. In the first hundred kilometres, the riders will tackle the climbs in the heart of the Langhe — Bric Giubellini, Bricco Rosso, Bric del Paluco, and Colle Monte — in a continuous series of ups and downs that will immediately test the peloton's legs. After Monte Cavanero, the race heads towards Borgo San Dalmazzo and then onto the Cuneo city circuit, with the finish on corso Nizza, near the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart. A hilly and selective course designed to provide a spectacle right to the final metre.
The 2026 Italian Championships take place over several days and across multiple locations in the province of Cuneo. On Thursday, June 25, the Elite Men's individual time trial will be held between Vicoforte and Barolo, covering approximately 40 kilometres with 450 metres of elevation gain, entirely within the Granda territory and in the heart of the UNESCO-listed wine hills. The Elite and Under 23 Women's road races complete the event programme that same weekend. Cuneo, with its long-standing cycling tradition, thus confirms itself as a capital of Italian cycling.
Like all great road races, the absolute charm of the Italian Championships lies in the ability to follow them for free from the roadside, along the route or on the final city circuit. The province of Cuneo, with its alpine valleys, the Langhe, and the plains, offers an ideal setting for enthusiasts and the many fans who follow the hunt for the tricolour jersey every year.
The 2026 tricolour championship is headquartered in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont. The highlight day is Saturday, June 27, with the Elite Men's road race, while the individual time trial is scheduled for Thursday, June 25. Organization is entrusted to ExtraGiro under the aegis of the Italian Cycling Federation.
The Women's Elite/Under 23 races will also take place over the weekend. Start times and the full list of categories will be published by the Italian Cycling Federation in the weeks leading up to the event.
