The international granfondo of Cuneo through the climbs of the Southern Alps
The Granfondo La Fausto Coppi is one of Europe's most celebrated and demanding cycling marathons, hosted every year in late June by the city of Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont. Dedicated to the 'Campionissimo' Fausto Coppi, the event starts and finishes in Piazza Galimberti, its home since 1987, and attracts thousands of amateur cyclists from over 30 countries, transforming the city center into a vibrant sports village.
The race offers three tracks designed for every level of fitness and passion:
The Colle Fauniera, also known as Colle dei Morti, is the event's signature climb: a legendary ascent that tests even the most trained cyclists while offering extraordinary views of the Cuneo Alps.
La Fausto Coppi is more than just a race: it is a widespread event that animates Piazza Galimberti and the streets of Cuneo's center for four days with an exhibition village, a street food area showcasing local culinary excellence, concerts, talks with top athletes, children's bike rides, and cultural initiatives. In recent years, the event has intertwined its calendar with major sporting milestones, from the passage of the Italian Professional Championship to celebrations linked to the Olympics.
As one of Italy's longest-running granfondos, La Fausto Coppi is a true institution for international amateur cycling and a defining event for the city of Cuneo and the entire province. The combination of grueling alpine climbs, top-tier organization, and warm hospitality makes it one of the most coveted stops on the European granfondo calendar, perfectly blending sporting challenge with a love for the Piedmont region.
The Granfondo La Fausto Coppi Generali 2026 returns to Cuneo for its 37th edition, during a long weekend from June 25 to 28 that combines sport, culture, art, and gastronomy in Piazza Galimberti. The official guest country is Denmark, with over 30 nations represented at the start.
The two competitive tracks are confirmed: the Granfondo (172 km and 4,300 meters of elevation gain) and the Mediofondo (111 km and 2,500 meters), alongside the non-competitive Fauniera Classic of approximately 101 km. The signature climb remains the Colle Fauniera (2,481 m).
Cuneo is accessible by car via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway and the Cuneo highway network. By train, the city is served by the Cuneo station, connected to Turin and the regional network. The nearest airport is Cuneo Levaldigi; a wider range of flights is available from Turin Caselle.
All routes start and finish in Piazza Galimberti, in the center of Cuneo. The Granfondo start is scheduled for 7:00 AM on Sunday.
Registration is done online via the official website faustocoppi.net (Endu platform); entry fees typically start at 50 euros and increase as the race date approaches. The race pack can be collected in the Piazza Galimberti exhibition area in the days leading up to the race.
Given the difficulty of the routes and the high altitude of the Colle Fauniera, proper preparation and mountain-appropriate clothing for the descents are highly recommended. Book your accommodation in Cuneo or the surrounding valleys well in advance.
