International festival of contemporary circus and performing arts in Cuneo
Mirabilia The Festival is a major international showcase of contemporary circus and performing arts that brings the city of Cuneo—the capital of its namesake province in Piedmont—to life every early September. For five days, the historic centre and the city's most evocative spots are transformed into a widespread stage: courtyards, gardens, squares, museums, big tops, and woodlands host new circus performances, dance, urban theatre, and street arts, most of which are free to attend.
Founded in 2007, Mirabilia has grown to become a benchmark for contemporary circus in Italy and Europe. Organised by the IdeAgorà Association under the artistic direction of Fabrizio Gavosto, the festival brings dozens of international companies to Cuneo every year, featuring world premieres, national premieres, and regional debuts. Alongside the performances, Mirabilia hosts professional meetings, round tables, and the traditional Brunchmeeting, a moment for direct exchange between artists and industry professionals.
While Cuneo serves as its main hub, Mirabilia has a dimension that embraces the entire province: performances spread across numerous municipalities in the Cuneo area and the Langhe, bringing performing arts to small villages and natural settings alike. This itinerant vocation is one of the festival's hallmarks, blending the urban vibrancy of the capital with the discovery of the Piedmontese landscape.
The Mirabilia audience is diverse: families, theatre and dance enthusiasts, the curious, and circus arts professionals. The shows, often designed for outdoor spaces and audiences of all ages, create a festive atmosphere that engages the entire city of Cuneo. Aerial acrobatics, balancing acts, contemporary dance, and physical theatre alternate from the afternoon until late at night, guiding residents and visitors on a journey of wonder and poetry.
Cuneo is accessible by train (Cuneo station, connected to Turin and Savona) and by car via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway and the provincial road network. The nearest airport is Cuneo-Levaldigi; alternatively, Turin-Caselle.
Most performances are free to attend, unless otherwise indicated. For ticketed shows and the detailed programme, it is recommended to check the official website festivalmirabilia.it and the ticketing channels indicated by the organisers.
The festival takes place in outdoor spaces: comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for moving between different locations are recommended. It is advisable to arrive early for the most popular shows.
