The Carnival celebration in the heart of the Nebrodi mountains, featuring masks and floats in Piazza Lodato

The Militello Rosmarino Carnival is one of the most cherished events on the winter calendar of this village in the Nebrodi mountains, perched among the peaks of the province of Messina, Sicily. Every year, from late February to early March, the small town transforms into an open-air stage, filled with masks, confetti, music, and the unmissable parade that travels through the streets of the center.
The heart of the celebration is the parade of masks and allegorical floats that makes its way to Piazza Lodato, in the town center. To ensure the festivities take place safely, the Metropolitan City of Messina orders the temporary closure of a section of the Strada Provinciale 161 dell'Alcara each year, with traffic diverted to the SP 161 bis "Ferretta โ San Piero". This reflects a festival that involves the entire community and requires the joint commitment of the Municipality and local authorities.
In Militello Rosmarino, the Carnival is an event that renews itself year after year, serving as an integral part of the identity of a town that proudly preserves its folk traditions. With masks, entertainment, and costumed groups, the day is designed primarily for families and children, who can experience the Carnival in an authentic, intimate atmosphere, far from the crowds of larger events.
Militello Rosmarino is a small town in the province of Messina, overlooking the Tyrrhenian side of the Nebrodi range.
