About Micheli-Markt

The Micheli-Markt, also known as the Michaeli-Markt or St. Michael's Market, is a traditional fair that brings Val Martello to life every year in late September. Held at the Freizeitzentrum Trattla in the municipality of Martello (Province of Bolzano), it features stalls with local products, valley specialties, and musical accompaniment by the Musikkapelle Martell. This event, with roots dating back to the 1920s, continues to attract visitors from across the Val Venosta.

The Micheli-Markt in Val Martello

The Micheli-Markt, also known as St. Michael's Market (or Michaeli-Markt in German), is the traditional autumn fair of the municipality of Martello/Martell, located in Val Martello in the Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). Every year, towards the end of September, the Freizeitzentrum Trattla transforms into a vibrant village market that draws visitors from throughout the Val Venosta and beyond.

An Ancient Tradition

The origins of the market date back to the 1920s, when traders would carry their goods in baskets from the countryside to sell directly to visitors. Over the decades, the venue changed several times, moving through Bad Salt and the old Thairmühl before returning to the village. Following a severe natural disaster that struck the valley, the market was permanently moved to Trattla, where it is still held today. The name honors Archangel Michael, whose feast day falls on September 29th: while the market was once held on that exact day, it is now scheduled for the last Saturday of September.

Products, Specialties, and Music

At the Micheli-Markt, the stalls offer a rich assortment of goods: local products, gastronomic specialties from Val Martello, and a wide variety of items. The atmosphere is that of a cheerful and carefree village fair, with something of interest for everyone. The food and beverage service is managed by the Musikkapelle Martell, the local brass band, which helps create the festive mood of the day.

The Freizeitzentrum Trattla

The Trattla leisure and sports center, nestled in the woods of the Stelvio National Park, provides the ideal setting for the event. Beyond the fair, the facility offers leisure activities year-round. The fair generally runs from the morning until the early afternoon, with free admission.

Organization

The event is organized by the Tourismusverein Latsch-Martell tourist association, in collaboration with local valley entities.
