The traditional autumn fair at the Freizeitzentrum Trattla in Val Martello

The Micheli-Markt, also known as St. Michael's Market (or Michaeli-Markt in German), is the traditional autumn fair of the municipality of Martello/Martell, located in Val Martello in the Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). Every year, towards the end of September, the Freizeitzentrum Trattla transforms into a vibrant village market that draws visitors from throughout the Val Venosta and beyond.
The origins of the market date back to the 1920s, when traders would carry their goods in baskets from the countryside to sell directly to visitors. Over the decades, the venue changed several times, moving through Bad Salt and the old Thairmühl before returning to the village. Following a severe natural disaster that struck the valley, the market was permanently moved to Trattla, where it is still held today. The name honors Archangel Michael, whose feast day falls on September 29th: while the market was once held on that exact day, it is now scheduled for the last Saturday of September.
At the Micheli-Markt, the stalls offer a rich assortment of goods: local products, gastronomic specialties from Val Martello, and a wide variety of items. The atmosphere is that of a cheerful and carefree village fair, with something of interest for everyone. The food and beverage service is managed by the Musikkapelle Martell, the local brass band, which helps create the festive mood of the day.
The Trattla leisure and sports center, nestled in the woods of the Stelvio National Park, provides the ideal setting for the event. Beyond the fair, the facility offers leisure activities year-round. The fair generally runs from the morning until the early afternoon, with free admission.
The event is organized by the Tourismusverein Latsch-Martell tourist association, in collaboration with local valley entities.
The 2026 edition of the Micheli-Markt will be held, as per tradition, at the Freizeitzentrum Trattla in Martello/Martell, Val Martello (Province of Bolzano). The official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been communicated by the organizers: the fair usually takes place on the last Saturday of September, from the morning until the early afternoon, with free admission.
The detailed program will be published by the Tourismusverein Latsch-Martell in the weeks leading up to the event. As every year, stalls featuring local products and specialties from Val Martello are expected, with the Musikkapelle Martell providing food and drinks.
