The traditional autumn market in Sluderno, Vinschgau Valley
The Rosenkranzmarkt, known in Italian as the Rosary Market, is one of the most cherished autumn events for the community of Sluderno (Schluderns), a small town in the upper Vinschgau Valley (Obervinschgau) in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. Every year, at the beginning of October, the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) transforms into a lively village market where local produce and traditional crafts take center stage.
The market takes its name from the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, traditionally celebrated in early October, and retains the genuine character of ancient valley fairs. Among the stalls, you will find homemade products, hand-sewn items, local handicrafts, and, of course, South Tyrolean gastronomic specialties: speck, alpine cheeses, fresh bread, preserves, and traditional sweets. Live music fills the morning air, giving the square that convivial atmosphere that makes village fairs in the Vinschgau Valley so authentic.
Sluderno is a village with a long history, dominated by the silhouette of Castel Coira (Churburg) and situated in one of the most picturesque areas of the Obervinschgau. During the market, the town also offers a free guided tour of the historic center, allowing visitors to discover local corners and traditions while enjoying the valley's so-called "golden autumn." The Rosenkranzmarkt is organized by the Municipality of Sluderno and is a free-entry event, perfect for an autumn family outing among the scents, flavors, and crafts of South Tyrol.
The 2026 Rosary Market enlivens the Town Hall Square of Sluderno on Saturday, October 3, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. As per tradition, the stalls offer homemade products, sewn and handcrafted items, speck, alpine cheeses, and other specialties from the Vinschgau Valley, all accompanied by live music. Admission is free.
At 12:30 PM, a free guided tour of the village with Gabi is scheduled, meeting at the Museum and lasting about an hour: an opportunity to discover the history and characteristic corners of Sluderno while enjoying the golden autumn of the Obervinschgau.
