About Tauferer Markt

The Tauferer Markt is the traditional autumn market in Tubre (Taufers im Münstertal), the westernmost municipality in South Tyrol, nestled in the Val Monastero at an altitude of over 1,200 meters near the Swiss border. Every autumn, Fliri-Dane-Platz in the heart of the village comes alive with stalls featuring local products, handicrafts, and gastronomic specialties from the Val Venosta. Organized by the Tuberis Ortsentwicklung association in collaboration with the municipality, it is a deeply rooted community event that brings together residents and visitors amidst the village's ancient Romanesque churches.

An autumn market in the mountains of Val Monastero

The Tauferer Markt is the traditional autumn market of Tubre (known in German as Taufers im Münstertal), the westernmost municipality in South Tyrol, located in the picturesque Val Monastero, a side valley of the Upper Val Venosta. At an altitude of over 1,200 meters, at the foot of the Sesvenna Alps and just a stone's throw from the border with the Swiss Canton of Grisons, the village offers an exceptional alpine setting for an event that blends commerce, tradition, and community life.

Stalls, local products, and handicrafts

The market takes place in the village center on Fliri-Dane-Platz, where exhibitors' stalls line up for the day. The selection ranges from local products and gastronomic delights from the Val Venosta to local handicrafts, as well as everyday items and seasonal specialties of the South Tyrolean autumn. It is the perfect opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of an authentic mountain village market, far from the main tourist crowds.

A celebration of local identity

The event is organized by the local association Tuberis Ortsentwicklung in collaboration with the Municipality of Tubre, which oversees its promotion. More than just a market, the Tauferer Markt is a gathering point for the small community of Taufers im Münstertal (with just under a thousand inhabitants) and for visitors traveling up the valley in autumn, when the forests glow with the colors of the season.

The village and its heritage

Tubre is famous for its exceptional Romanesque heritage: the Church of San Giovanni, one of the oldest buildings in the area, houses 13th-century frescoes and the oldest depiction of Saint Christopher in the Tyrol. A visit to the market can thus be combined with exploring a village of great historical and cultural value, located within the Stelvio National Park, in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol.

When it takes place

The Tauferer Markt is traditionally held in autumn, usually in October. The 2025 edition took place on October 11th. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced; it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality of Tubre for calendar confirmation.
