The traditional wedding pastry in the hamlet of Micciano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Some festivals capture the essence of a village better than any guidebook. The Micciano Ciambellino Festival is one of them: every year, on the last weekend of July, the village of Miccianoโa tiny hamlet in the municipality of Pomarance, in the province of Pisaโrallies around its signature pastry, offering it to anyone who ventures up into these hills of the Val di Cecina, in the heart of Tuscany.
The ciambellino is no ordinary pastry. In Micciano, it was the traditional wedding cake, prepared as a sign of good fortune, abundance, and sharing between families. Crunchy on the outside, scented with anise or lemon, and often finished with a dusting of sugar or a light glaze, it is still baked according to the traditional recipe. During the festival, it is enjoyed in various versions, paired with dessert wines and homemade liqueurs, in a ritual that binds the generations of the village together.
The event, organized with passion by the Pro Loco Micciano Association, spans two evenings. Saturday features a dinner highlighted by cacciucco, the famous fish stew of the Tuscan coast, reflecting the territory's connection to the nearby sea. Sunday is the day of the ciambellini: they are prepared and baked on-site, served fresh, and offered for tasting, while food stalls remain open for both lunch and dinner.
Beyond the table, Micciano opens its alleys to visitors: folk tales, small cultural initiatives, and the intimate atmosphere of a village where everyone knows each other. In recent editions, the Pro Loco has also inaugurated the Biblio-Loco, a small book-sharing box where visitors can freely leave or take books, a sign of a vibrant community that aims to grow around its most beloved festival. Visiting the Ciambellino Festival means discovering the most authentic side of Tuscany, far from the mass tourism routes.
The 21st edition of the Micciano Ciambellino Festival is scheduled, according to available sources, for Saturday, July 26, and Sunday, July 27, 2026, continuing the tradition that brings hundreds of visitors to Micciano every summer. The date is currently indicated as to be confirmed by the organizers.
The structure of the festival is expected to follow the established format: Saturday dinner with cacciucco, preparation and tasting of fresh ciambellini on Sunday, food stalls open for lunch and dinner, and a dance evening with live music. The detailed program will be announced by Pro Loco Micciano in the weeks leading up to the event.
The detailed program for the 21st edition has not yet been published by the organizers. Based on previous editions, the expected structure is as follows:
Dates and times will be confirmed by Pro Loco Micciano on their official channels.
Micciano is a hamlet of the Municipality of Pomarance (PI), in the hinterland of the Val di Cecina. By car, it can be reached from the SS68 road in the direction of Volterra-Pomarance; the nearest train station is in Cecina, from where you continue by car towards the interior. We recommend arriving by car due to the village's hilltop location.
Last weekend of July (Saturday and Sunday). For updated dates and times, it is best to follow the Pro Loco Micciano Facebook page.
