About Wild Boar Festival

Every August, Casale Marittimo—a charming hillside village in the Val di Cecina near Pisa—celebrates its most iconic local product with the Wild Boar Festival. Under the stars at Parco del Tamburello, the local Pro Loco and village volunteers prepare wild boar pappardelle, stews, and sausages, paired with wines and specialties from the Pisan Maremma. It is a genuine, convivial community celebration where traditional Tuscan cuisine meets the relaxed atmosphere of a summer village.

A festival in the heart of Val di Cecina

The Wild Boar Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Casale Marittimo, a medieval village perched on the hills of the Val di Cecina, in the province of Pisa, just a few kilometers from the Tuscan coast. Every August, the village gathers at Parco del Tamburello to celebrate the star of local cuisine: wild boar, a symbol of the Pisan Maremma and the surrounding hilly hinterland.

Wild boar cuisine

The heart of the festival is, naturally, the menu, entirely dedicated to wild boar dishes prepared according to Tuscan peasant traditions. Typical dishes found at the outdoor tables include:

  • Pappardelle al cinghiale (wide noodles with wild boar ragù), the signature dish of Maremma cuisine
  • Wild boar stew, slow-cooked with herbs and red wine
  • Grilled wild boar sausages and roasts
  • Traditional side dishes and desserts, accompanied by local Val di Cecina wines

Alongside the wild boar, there are plenty of other delicacies from the Pisan Maremma, prepared by the numerous volunteers who, under the organization of the Pro Loco of Casale Marittimo, ensure excellent service in the kitchen and at the tables every evening.

A community celebration

More than just a gastronomic event, the Wild Boar Festival is a village feast that brings residents and visitors together in a spirit of conviviality. Evenings at Parco del Tamburello are often accompanied by live music and entertainment, capturing the relaxed, authentic atmosphere typical of the best Tuscan festivals.

Casale Marittimo, a Tuscan village

Visiting the festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover Casale Marittimo, one of the most picturesque villages on the Pisan coast, with its circular historic center, panoramic hillside views, and proximity to the seaside resorts of Tuscany. It is a small town where food and wine traditions are still experienced as a true moment of connection between people.
