The taste of the Pisan Maremma at Parco del Tamburello
The Wild Boar Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Casale Marittimo, a medieval village perched on the hills of the Val di Cecina, in the province of Pisa, just a few kilometers from the Tuscan coast. Every August, the village gathers at Parco del Tamburello to celebrate the star of local cuisine: wild boar, a symbol of the Pisan Maremma and the surrounding hilly hinterland.
The heart of the festival is, naturally, the menu, entirely dedicated to wild boar dishes prepared according to Tuscan peasant traditions. Typical dishes found at the outdoor tables include:
Alongside the wild boar, there are plenty of other delicacies from the Pisan Maremma, prepared by the numerous volunteers who, under the organization of the Pro Loco of Casale Marittimo, ensure excellent service in the kitchen and at the tables every evening.
More than just a gastronomic event, the Wild Boar Festival is a village feast that brings residents and visitors together in a spirit of conviviality. Evenings at Parco del Tamburello are often accompanied by live music and entertainment, capturing the relaxed, authentic atmosphere typical of the best Tuscan festivals.
Visiting the festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover Casale Marittimo, one of the most picturesque villages on the Pisan coast, with its circular historic center, panoramic hillside views, and proximity to the seaside resorts of Tuscany. It is a small town where food and wine traditions are still experienced as a true moment of connection between people.
The 2026 Wild Boar Festival will be held on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Parco del Tamburello in Casale Marittimo (PI). The dates are confirmed by the official summer events calendar of the Municipality and Terre di Pisa.
Once again this year, the Pro Loco of Casale Marittimo, with the help of local volunteers, will enliven the evenings with a menu dedicated to wild boar—pappardelle, stew, sausages—and other specialties of the Val di Cecina.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Pro Loco of Casale Marittimo in the weeks leading up to the festival. Based on past editions, the usual structure includes:
The menu focuses on wild boar dishes (pappardelle, stew, sausages, and roasts) and specialties of the Pisan Maremma, with music and entertainment in the evenings. Details on dishes and musical evenings will be published by the Pro Loco before the event.
The festival takes place at Parco del Tamburello in Casale Marittimo (PI), in the area of the village's tamburello court.
By car: Casale Marittimo is accessible via the SS1 Aurelia (take the Cecina or Casale Marittimo exit) and the provincial roads of the Val di Cecina. By train: the nearest station is Cecina, on the Tirrenica line, from where you can continue by car toward the hinterland.
The food stand opens for dinner starting at 7:30 PM; on Sundays, lunch is usually also available from 12:00 PM.
Organized by the Pro Loco Casale Marittimo (tel. +39 0586 1880769, e-mail [email protected]). We recommend checking dates and the program on the Pro Loco's official channels before traveling.
