About Volunteering Festival

The Volunteering Festival kicks off the summer event calendar in Casale Marittimo, one of Italy's most beautiful villages overlooking the Val di Cecina, in the province of Pisa. Organized by the local Pro Loco, the event brings the historic center to life for two evenings in early July, featuring long tables under the stars, traditional Tuscan dishes, and the community spirit that defines local volunteering. A convivial gathering that inaugurates the 2026 summer season in Casale Marittimo.

A community celebration in the heart of the Pisan Maremma

The Volunteering Festival is the first major social event of the summer in Casale Marittimo, a small town in the Province of Pisa that is part of the prestigious 'Borghi piรน belli d'Italia' (Most Beautiful Villages in Italy) circuit and holds the Touring Club's Orange Flag. The event, organized by the local Pro Loco, transforms the streets and squares of the historic center into a grand meeting place where residents and visitors sit side by side to share good food and the pleasure of being together.

The village hosting the festival

Perched 214 meters high on the Poggio al Pruno hill, Casale Marittimo commands a vast panorama that stretches from the Val di Cecina to the sea, just twelve kilometers away, and on clear days offers views of the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. Its medieval center, which remains almost intact with the Pieve di Sant'Andrea, narrow streets, and glimpses of the countryside, provides the ideal setting for a festival with an authentic flavor, far from mass tourism. We are in the Pisan Maremma, along the Etruscan Coast, a land of wine, olive oil, and rural traditions.

Cuisine and conviviality

As is the tradition of Tuscan village festivals, the heart of the celebration is the table. The food stalls, managed by volunteers, offer typical home-style local dishes served on long outdoor tables. It is an opportunity to savor the region's specialties in a familiar and genuine atmosphere, while supporting the activities of the associations that keep the village alive all year round.

The start of a summer full of events

The Volunteering Festival kicks off a busy summer program that continues throughout the season with other highly anticipated events, from the Snail Festival to the Wild Boar Festival, and the historic Diotto Casalese celebration. Participating in this first festival means discovering the authentic welcoming spirit of a Tuscan village that still lives at a human, community-oriented scale.
