Carnival returns to the Villa Comunale in Melito

Every winter, the Villa Comunale on Via Lavinaio transforms into the heart of the local Carnival. For one afternoon, the park fills with confetti, masks, music, and laughter: the Melito Carnival is a simple, popular community festival, designed primarily for children but open to families and citizens of all ages. There are no monumental floats or grand traditional parades here; the true protagonist is the neighborhood gathering outdoors in a public space returned to the community.

The 2026 program

The 2026 edition took place on Sunday, February 22nd, starting at 4:00 PM at the Villa Comunale on Via Lavinaio 42. The Municipality transformed the park into a festive village with continuous entertainment and activities spread along the pathways. Admission is free and no booking is required.

• Bouncy castles for the little ones, set up in the green area;
• Children's entertainment, with guided games and group activities;
• Street performers, featuring roaming acts and small shows;
• Mascot parade, with characters beloved by children;
• Treat carts, serving sweets and traditional Carnival specialties.

The afternoon is designed to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace: arrive in costume, wander between attractions, and stay until sunset.

A party within the “Aggregazione Comune” project

The Carnival is not an isolated event. It is part of the “Aggregazione Comune” project, included in the 2025-2026 Metropolitan Events Calendar promoted by the Metropolitan City of Naples. The Municipality of Melito di Napoli was awarded a total of 100,000 euros—37,500 euros for 2025 and 62,500 euros for 2026—as part of a broader metropolitan plan for municipalities in the Naples area.

The program, running from December 8, 2025, to March 2026, has three stated goals: to rebuild identity and a sense of belonging, foster intergenerational participation, and turn culture into a social and economic lever. Alongside the Carnival, the schedule includes the Santa Claus Village, the Christmas concert at the Teatro Barone, the Befana Village, and the “A Book in the Library” meetings.

Melito di Napoli and the Campanian Carnival

Melito di Napoli is a densely populated municipality in the northern part of the Metropolitan City of Naples, in Campania, just a few kilometers from the regional capital. In an area where public spaces are a precious resource, the municipal villa is one of the few outdoor gathering spots: hosting the Carnival there has a value that goes far beyond a single day of celebration. In Campania, Carnival is a season rich in events—from parades in inland towns to town square parties in urban centers—and neighborhood celebrations like this one are the daily fabric that keeps tradition alive between generations.

It is best to arrive early, by 4:00 PM, when the bouncy castles are less crowded and queues are shorter. Costumes are highly recommended for both children and adults.
