For one afternoon in December, the public park transforms into the Santa Claus Village, an event the Municipality reserves for the little ones and their families. It is not a large, paid theme park like those that pop up every winter in the Neapolitan hinterland, but something different and, in some ways, more precious: a community celebration, free and open to all, designed so that no child is left out.

A village designed for families

The format is simple and well-established. The villa fills with bouncy castles and Christmas-themed entertainment stations, with costumed performers, games, and music that accompany the afternoon until dusk. At the center of it all is, of course, Santa Claus himself, who welcomes children for the traditional photos and to collect their letters. It is an occasion that many local families look forward to, as it allows them to experience the atmosphere of a Christmas village without having to travel to Naples or the large, ticketed attractions in the province.

The «Aggregazione Comune» project

The Santa Claus Village is not an isolated event: it is part of the «Aggregazione Comune» project, managed by the Social Services Department of the Municipality of Melito di Napoli and included in the Metropolitan Events Calendar promoted by the Metropolitan City of Naples. The administration's stated goal is to strengthen the sense of community and involve citizens of all ages, restoring a meeting place function to public spaces. For the 2025-2026 two-year period, the Municipality obtained a total metropolitan grant of one hundred thousand euros, split over the two years, which covers the entire calendar of initiatives.

A program ranging from Christmas to Carnival

The village is part of a broader program that accompanies Melito throughout the winter. The festivities open with the lighting of the tree and the Christmas lights, continue with events in schools and the municipal library, the Christmas concert, and conclude with the Befana Village on Epiphany, also hosted at the Villa Comunale with a musical parade, themed masks, and the distribution of gifts. The season then ends in February with the Carnival celebration, held in the same park, featuring street artists and mascot parades.

With nearly forty thousand inhabitants, Melito di Napoli is one of the most densely populated centers in the Province of Naples and the entire Campania region. As of the update of this entry, the Municipality of Melito di Napoli has not yet published the Christmas calendar for December 2026: this is completely normal, as the holiday program is usually released between late November and early December. However, the «Aggregazione Comune» project remains active for 2026, and the Santa Claus Village is now a fixed appointment in the Melito calendar. It is therefore advisable to keep an eye on the Municipality's official channels in the weeks leading up to the holidays to find out the date, times, and activities of the new edition.
