The Franciscan Living Nativity of Grumo Nevano

Every year, in the heart of the Christmas season, the garden of the Santa Caterina Convent in Grumo Nevano, near Naples, transforms into an evocative Nativity village. The Franciscan Living Nativity is an event organized by the Santa Caterina parish community that recreates the birth of Jesus with costumed actors and faithful settings, following the tradition established by Saint Francis himself.

A journey through the Nativity scenes

Visitors follow a set path through various Nativity scenes, brought to life by ancient trades. Along the way, you will encounter a blacksmith at his forge, a chestnut roaster, a cheesemaker, a greengrocer, a fishmonger, and a bakery, all creating a choral tableau that captures the atmosphere of villages from the past. At the end of the path, visitors can sample traditional products prepared in the workshops, a convivial moment that concludes the visit.

The arrival of the Three Wise Men

The most anticipated moment is the arrival of the Three Wise Men, who appear on horseback on Epiphany to bring gifts to the Baby Jesus. The procession starts from Piazza Cirillo and winds through the town streets before reaching the convent garden, where the final scene of the performance takes place, greeted each year by a large crowd.

A young and heartfelt tradition

Born from the dedication of the parish community, the Franciscan Living Nativity is a recent event for the Municipality of Grumo Nevano, the result of weeks of preparation by dozens of volunteers. In just a few years, it has become a defining event for the town, blending the religious significance of Advent and Epiphany with the cultural and social value of the Neapolitan nativity scene, a recognized heritage of the Campania region.
