Megiagùst, the delicious Ferragosto of Upega

In the heart of the Piedmontese Ligurian Alps, where the municipality of Briga Alta encompasses some of the highest and most remote hamlets in the province of Cuneo, the village of Upega comes alive every Ferragosto with Megiagùst. The name, with its Brigasco dialect flair, blends the idea of "eating" with the month of August: a festival created to bring life and conviviality back to the village's characteristic stone houses, the famous "stone skyscrapers" of the Tanaro Valley.

An American barbecue in the mountains

The main attraction is an authentic American-style barbecue, prepared according to overseas street food traditions. The menu revolves around pulled pork (slow-cooked, shredded pork) served in a bun, and smoked sausage, accompanied by red cabbage and fries. Megiagùst is part of this summer program and complements the village's other major gastronomic event, the Mangià Brigasc, a traveling tasting of traditional Brigasco dishes along the village streets.
