The gourmet food festival in the hamlet of Maurina, featuring polenta and snails on the Paganella Plateau
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Snail Festival is one of the most characteristic summer events on the Paganella Plateau. It takes place in the small hamlet of Maurina, in the municipality of Spormaggiore, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), and is organized with passion by the volunteers of the Pro Loco Spormaggiore APS. Two evenings dedicated to fine food, conviviality, and mountain traditions, set in a village nestled in the greenery of the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park.
As the name suggests, the festival's signature dish is snails, prepared according to traditional peasant recipes and served with the essential polenta. This rustic and flavorful pairing is rooted in the humble cuisine of the past, when snails were a precious resource in the Trentino countryside.
Beyond the event's namesake specialty, the food stands offer a rich menu of typical Trentino dishes:
The Snail Festival is, above all, a moment of gathering for the community of Spormaggiore and its surrounding mountain farms. Preparation and table service are handled by Pro Loco volunteers, often joined by local youth from sports and mountain rescue associations. The evenings, which begin in the late afternoon, come alive with music and entertainment, offering visitors an authentic mountain festival experience.
Spormaggiore is a small town nestled between the Val di Non and the Paganella Plateau, at the gateway to the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. Known also for its Wildlife Park dedicated to the brown bear, it offers visitors a fascinating natural setting, ideal for combining the festival with walks, hikes, and the discovery of traditional Trentino villages.
