Four days of faith, tradition, sport, and gastronomy in the village of Argentario
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Montevaccino Festival is the annual event that brings together the entire community of this small village perched on the slopes of the Argentario, a hamlet of the Municipality of Trento, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. For four days, usually around the second Sunday of September, the streets and public spaces of the village transform into a lively hub of celebration, blending religious, social, and sporting activities.
The festival is dedicated to the Holy Name of Mary and is deeply rooted in the life of the San Leonardo parish. The most poignant moment is the evening procession on the opening night, which moves from the church of San Leonardo to the sacred shrine of the Madonna del Masét for an hour of prayer, singing, and reflection. Sunday culminates with a solemn Mass, vespers, and a procession featuring the statue of the Virgin through the village streets—a ritual that renews the identity of the local community year after year.
Alongside the religious observances, the Montevaccino Festival offers a lively program for all ages. The Sports Park, located next to the church, hosts soccer tournaments, the "Se rampega" climbing wall managed by alpine guides, non-competitive marches, and vertical races toward Cima Calisio. The Social Center is the heart of conviviality: the kitchen is open every evening serving traditional Trentino dishes—canederli, potato tortel, tosella cheese, tripe, polenta, cabbage, and strauben pastries—accompanied by live music, karaoke, the famous "Vaso della Fortuna" raffle, children's shows, and exhibitions.
The secret to the festival's success is the collective effort of all the village's organizations: the Montevaccino Community Circle, the Alpini Group, the Montevaccino Sports Union, the parish, the Argentario Ecomuseum, the Volunteer Firefighters, and numerous local volunteers and sponsors. This collaboration makes the Montevaccino Festival much more than just a local fair: it is an opportunity to rediscover the spirit of a small hamlet in the Province of Trento that, for a few days each year, becomes a focal point for the entire surrounding area.
At the moment, the dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition of the Montevaccino Festival have not yet been published by the organizers. The event, a fixed appointment for the Trentino hamlet, is traditionally held around the second Sunday of September and spans four days.
As is customary, the program will include moments of prayer and the procession dedicated to the Holy Name of Mary, sports tournaments and the climbing wall at the Sports Park, live music, and traditional Trentino cuisine at the Social Center. The official calendar will be announced by the Montevaccino Community Circle in the weeks preceding the event.
The festival takes place in the village of Montevaccino, a hamlet of the Municipality of Trento (postal code 38122), on the hills of the Argentario. The two main venues are the Sports Park, next to the church of San Leonardo, and the Social Center courtyard.
Montevaccino can be reached by car from Trento by heading up towards Cognola and the Argentario; the village is just a few kilometers from the city center. During the event, please pay attention to parking signs.
