Music, thought, and community in the heart of the Alta Langa
For over thirty years, Mataria 'd Langa has transformed Roddino, a village of about 420 inhabitants perched on the hills of the Alta Langa, in the province of Cuneo (Piedmont), into a crossroads of music, ideas, and conviviality. Founded in 1992, the festival has grown around a simple yet tenacious idea: to bring great artists and high-quality debates to a tiny village, making the community the true driving force of the event. Everything is created by the volunteers of the Pro Loco of Roddino, who welcome thousands of visitors from all over Italy every summer.
Over the years, the Mataria stage has hosted major names from the Italian and international scene: from the Gang, who have never missed an edition since 1995, to Billy Bragg, Subsonica, Max Gazzè, Africa Unite, Eugenio Finardi, Mau Mau, Modena City Ramblers, Cristiano Godano, and Lucio Corsi. The common thread is singer-songwriter music, folk, and music that tells the story of the present, often accompanied by civil and cultural reflection that gives the festival its unmistakable identity.
Mataria 'd Langa is held in conjunction with the Summer Black Truffle Fair, two days dedicated to the prized summer black truffle, local products, and the farming traditions of the Langhe. Alongside the music, there is space for the Liber e Storie literary festival, exhibitions, conferences, and debate meetings that have made the event much more than a simple village feast. Langhe gastronomy, with street food prepared by volunteers, completes the experience.
Located in the UNESCO-listed Langhe-Roero and Monferrato vineyard landscape, Roddino offers the ideal setting to experience a human-scale festival, far from the big crowds but rich in cultural offerings. Those who arrive for Mataria 'd Langa discover an authentic village, its hills, and a community that has proudly guarded this tradition for over three decades.
Roddino is located in the Alta Langa, in the province of Cuneo. By car, it can be reached from Alba (about 25 km) and from Dogliani, along the hilly roads of the Langhe. We recommend using a car: public transport connections are limited.
Some concerts have free admission, while others are ticketed. For ticketed evenings, advance booking is recommended. Updated information is available on the official website.
