Three days of Marzuolo truffle cuisine at the Circolo La Ruga in Ponte a Egola
The Marzuolo Truffle Festival in Ponte a Egola is a spring food and wine event held in the village of Ponte a Egola, within the municipality of San Miniato, in the province of Pisa. The event celebrates the Marzuolo truffle (Tuber borchii), a variety that matures between late winter and early spring, just as the famous white truffle of the San Miniato hills fades from the scene. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover a lesser-known but equally prized product in one of Italy's most prestigious areas for truffle cultivation.
The festival takes place at the Circolo La Ruga, located at Via 1° Maggio 200 in Ponte a Egola. The format is that of a convivial banquet: dinner on Friday and Saturday and lunch on Sunday, with the kitchen serving unique truffle-based dishes paired with local specialties and regional wines. Given the popularity of the event, table reservations are highly recommended.
The event is organized by the Palio del Cuoio Committee and all the Rioni (districts) of Ponte a Egola. The Palio del Cuoio is the village's main identity-defining festival, tied to the historic leather-tanning tradition of San Miniato and Ponte a Egola, one of Italy's leading districts for leather processing. The truffle festival is therefore much more than just a gastronomic event: it is a moment of gathering that involves the Rioni and keeps the village's community spirit alive throughout the year.
San Miniato is universally known as the city of the truffle: its white truffle is among the most sought-after in the world, and an internationally acclaimed exhibition-market is dedicated to it every autumn. The Marzuolo Truffle Festival offers a different, more intimate perspective on this tradition, highlighting a seasonal truffle in a popular and family-friendly setting, far from the major tourist crowds.
The second edition of the Marzuolo Truffle Festival was held in Ponte a Egola from April 10 to 12, 2026, organized by the Palio del Cuoio Committee and all the Rioni at the Circolo La Ruga premises on Via 1° Maggio 200.
For three days, the kitchen served unique Marzuolo truffle-based dishes, accompanied by local specialties and regional wines, in an atmosphere of great conviviality.
