The Lasa marble and apricot festival in Val Venosta
Marmor & Marillen (meaning "Marble and Apricots") is the street festival that transforms the village of Lasa/Laas every first weekend of August into a grand showcase of its two historical hallmarks. Located in Val Venosta, in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige, this is a bilingual region where farming and artisan traditions have thrived side-by-side for centuries. Now in its twenty-fifth year, the event is organized by the Laaser Aktionsgemeinschaft and draws thousands of visitors from across South Tyrol and beyond.
Lasa is famously known as the "Marble Village" (Marmordorf). The quarries carved into the mountains above the village produce some of the purest white marble in Europe, prized by architects, sculptors, and artists worldwide and used in iconic works far beyond Italy's borders. During the festival, the marble leaves the quarries and comes down to the village: sculptors work the pristine material before the public's eyes, visitors can explore the Laaser Marmorwelt open-air museum, and guided tours of the processing facilities are available.
The other star of the show is the apricot (Marille) of Val Venosta, grown in the orchards surrounding the village and renowned for its sweetness. During the festival, restaurants, stalls, and kiosks offer a variety of apricot-based specialties: from pastries and jams to apricot beer and gourmet dishes that pair the fruit with local cuisine.
Along the Vinschgaustraße, the village's main street, a market winds its way from the upper part of the town to the Marmorwelt, featuring over fifty stalls selling local products, artistic marble crafts, and South Tyrolean specialties. Amidst churches, courtyards, and small squares, art exhibitions and installations are set up, while small musical ensembles provide a soundtrack to the day. There is also a dedicated space for children, featuring creative marble workshops and themed games.
The marble and apricot festival returns to Lasa/Laas on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, 2026. The market along the Vinschgaustraße welcomes over fifty stalls featuring Val Venosta apricots, artistic white Lasa marble crafts, and South Tyrolean gastronomic specialties.
In the various spaces of the village - from the Marmorwelt to the churches, courtyards, and squares - exhibitions, art installations, and sculpture demonstrations take place, while small musical ensembles liven up the days. Guided tours of the marble processing plants and the Laaser Marmorwelt are scheduled. There is a large area dedicated to children, with creative workshops and themed games.
On Saturday evening, an open-air party is planned in the world of marble, with an after-show party and music. Admission is free.
Lasa/Laas is located in Val Venosta, along the SS38 state road between Silandro and Malles. By car, from the Bolzano South exit of the A22 motorway, follow the MeBo expressway and continue into Val Venosta. By train, the Lasa station is served by the Val Venosta railway line (Merano-Malles).
The market is open Saturday and Sunday, approximately from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Admission to the festival is free.
We recommend arriving by public transport or parking in the designated areas on the outskirts of the village, as the center is pedestrianized during the event. Bring comfortable shoes for visiting the quarries and the Marmorwelt.
