Five summer Thursday evenings in Prato allo Stelvio, featuring music, markets, and Vinschgau traditions
The Prader Marktquintett is a summer event held every Thursday that enlivens the main square (Hauptplatz) of Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch, in the Vinschgau Valley, in the heart of South Tyrol (Province of Bolzano). The name refers to the five Thursdays that make up the calendar, spread between July and August; in the local dialect, the event is known as Longr Pfinsta, literally the "long Thursday," because the square stays lively until late in the evening.
Each evening kicks off in the late afternoon, transforming the town center into a vibrant open-air market. Stalls offer regional products and specialties from the Vinschgau Valley, while local associations and producers provide food and drinks. Live music accompanies your stroll through the stands, and there is no shortage of entertainment and games designed for children, making the event suitable for the whole family.
Among the five Thursdays, one is dedicated to the Feier-Obend-Festl, the most festive evening of the calendar. On the square's stage, you can see the spectacular Goaßlschnöller (whip crackers), Schuhplattler dancers, and folk groups from Prato allo Stelvio, accompanied by a band that keeps the crowd dancing until late. It is a chance to experience South Tyrolean folk traditions up close, where—as the local motto goes—tradition meets rock and Lederhosen.
Prato allo Stelvio is the gateway to the famous Stelvio Pass and the Stelvio National Park, an exceptional natural setting that frames these evenings. The Municipality of Prato allo Stelvio and the Tourismusverein Prad organize the event, which over the years has become one of the most anticipated summer gatherings in the town, bringing together residents, vacationers, and hikers in a genuine and convivial atmosphere.
The Prader Marktquintett 2026 enlivens the main square of Prato allo Stelvio for five Thursdays, from July 16 to August 20. Each evening combines music, a market of regional products, Vinschgau gastronomic specialties, and entertainment for children, starting around 5:30 PM.
The highlight is the Feier-Obend-Festl on Thursday, August 6, from 6:30 PM: the square will host performances by the Goaßlschnöller, Schuhplattler dancers, and local folk groups, accompanied by a band, with food and drinks provided by local associations. Admission to all evenings is free.
Five Thursday evenings in the square (July 16 and 23, July 30, August 6 and 13, until August 20, 2026), starting in the late afternoon (approximately from 5:30 PM). Each evening: live music, stalls with regional products and Vinschgau specialties, gastronomy by local associations, and children's entertainment.
Thursday, August 6, 2026 — Feier-Obend-Festl (from 6:30 PM): performances by the Goaßlschnöller, Schuhplattler dancers, and Prato allo Stelvio folk groups, with a band for the celebration.
Prato allo Stelvio can be reached by car along the SS38 Vinschgau road; it is about 60 km from Merano. By train, the nearest station is Spondigna/Silandro on the Vinschgau line (Merano–Malles), with a connecting bus service. The main square is in the town center.
Evenings begin in the late afternoon, approximately from 5:30 PM; the Feier-Obend-Festl starts from 6:30 PM.
Access to the market and the evening events is free of charge.
