The family theatre festival at the Teatro Cinema Puccini in Altopascio
Maraviglia – Theatre for Little and Big Dreamers is the festival dedicated to families at the Teatro Cinema Comunale Giacomo Puccini in Altopascio, a town in the Piana di Lucca, Tuscany. Created to introduce children to the stage, it offers a series of Sunday events designed to be experienced together, parents and children, sharing the same story.
The festival is organized by the Compagnia Teatrino dei Fondi in collaboration with the Municipality of Altopascio, under the artistic direction of Enrico Falaschi and with the support of the Ministry of Culture. The idea is to offer theatre that accompanies the growth of new generations, capable of moving, making people laugh, and stimulating the imagination: not just simple entertainment, but an opportunity to encounter live culture in a historic, fully renovated town-centre venue.
Each edition of Maraviglia features a diverse programme, ensuring there is something for every age group:
The shows are primarily aimed at children aged 3 and up, with titles also designed for older age groups, always using a language that speaks simultaneously to the little ones and the adults accompanying them.
The festival takes place at the Teatro Cinema Comunale Giacomo Puccini, on Via Regina Margherita, in the heart of Altopascio. Following renovation works, the venue has returned to being a cultural landmark for the entire province of Lucca, with a programme ranging from plays to cinema, as well as performances for schools and families. Today, Maraviglia is one of the most beloved events of its season, filling the theatre with children every Sunday afternoon.
The second edition of the Maraviglia festival took place at the Teatro Cinema Puccini in Altopascio from October 2025 to March 22, 2026, confirming the format of five Sunday afternoons dedicated to families. A journey that combined classic fairy tales, musical theatre, and puppet theatre, accompanying children and adults until spring with shows suitable for ages 3 and up.
Among the most anticipated moments of the season were the musical theatre show Aladino e il Genio della Musica – Fiabe Jazz with live musicians, and the classic Pippi Calzelunghe closing the festival. Also noteworthy was Cani, Gatti e Principesse, an original fairy tale by artistic director Enrico Falaschi on the theme of accepting diversity.
