International autumn folklore festival in Montecatini Terme
The Folklore Festival Autumn in Tuscany is an international event dedicated to folk traditions that brings Montecatini Terme, the famous spa town in the Province of Pistoia, Tuscany, to life every autumn. For five days, folk groups, choirs, orchestras, majorettes, and modern dance troupes from various European countries gather to share traditional dances, songs, and costumes in a spirit of friendship and cultural exchange.
The highlight of the event is the grand evening show on the stage set up in the central square of Montecatini Terme. Each group presents an eight-minute performance, featuring live or recorded music, in a parade of colors, costumes, and rhythms from across Europe. The stage is covered to ensure the show goes on even in case of rain; alternatively, performances can be hosted in an indoor theater. The groups admitted include adult, youth, and children's ensembles, with no age or size limits.
Beyond the performances, the festival is designed as a complete travel experience. The program includes excursions and guided tours to iconic Tuscan landmarks: a day in Florence, the opportunity to visit the Cinque Terre with stops in the villages of Monterosso and Vernazza, a visit to a local winery with a Tuscan lunch and tasting, and tours to Siena and San Gimignano. It is a way to combine a passion for folklore with the discovery of the region's art, landscapes, and gastronomy.
The festival is organized by MIOFF - Folklore Festival Organization together with Blue Diamond Events, entities specializing in international folklore festivals. The event is aimed primarily at groups wishing to perform and tourists who want to enjoy a free, colorful show in the town center. The autumn edition complements the summer one, confirming Montecatini Terme as one of Italy's capitals for international folklore gatherings.
For 2026, the Folklore Festival Autumn in Tuscany is scheduled in Montecatini Terme from October 9 to 13. The event structure follows the usual five-day format, intertwining stage performances in the central square with guided tours of Tuscany's iconic landmarks.
Each registered group presents an eight-minute performance, accompanied by live or recorded music. The main show is held in the central square, on a covered stage to ensure the event's success even in case of bad weather.
The detailed artistic program (list of participating groups and represented countries) is defined by the organization in the weeks preceding the event.
