Sicilian street food and street art in the village of Joppolo Giancaxio
Mangia e passìa is the street food festival that brings Joppolo Giancaxio to life every year, a small 17th-century village in the province of Agrigento, in the heart of Sicily. The name itself, in the local Sicilian dialect, is an invitation: "eat and walk," meaning to taste as you stroll. For one evening, Corso Umberto turns into a long path of taste and tradition, where visitors move slowly from one stall to the next, one bite after another.
The heart of the event is the island's street gastronomy, showcased through its most beloved specialties. Among the stalls set up along the main street, you will find:
Alongside the food stalls, a market of artisanal and local products highlights the small-scale production of the Agrigento territory, giving space to local artisans and hobbyists.
Mangia e passìa is about more than just food: the evening is punctuated by performances and live music. Recent years have featured the acoustic concert of Flavio Coloma (known as «Bebo»), street theatre with Gianmarco Amato, and musical incursions by the Modern Music Orchestra (MMO). To complete the atmosphere, artistic performances and circus acts animate the village's alleys and squares.
Promoted by the Municipality of Joppolo Giancaxio together with the Rabat Circle of Legambiente in Agrigento and various local entities, the event is part of the initiatives linked to the «Voler Bene all'Italia» campaign dedicated to small villages. The fixed date of June 2nd ties the festival to the Republic Day, making it the symbolic moment that marks the beginning of the local summer. Admission is free and the atmosphere is family-friendly: a great opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Valley of the Temples far from the main tourist flows.
