In the heart of the Biellese mountains, the small village of Crocemosso, a district of Valdilana (Biella province, Piedmont), hosts the Macagn Festival every late September. It is one of the most cherished and identity-defining gastronomic events in the region. Organized with passion by the Pro Loco Crocemosso Tourist Association, the festival is entirely dedicated to a bold alpine cheese, produced for generations in the pastures of the Biellese and nearby Valsesia.
Macagn (or Maccagno) is a raw milk cheese produced at high altitudes during the summer grazing season and is a recognized Slow Food Presidium. With its soft texture, herbaceous aromas, and a flavor that tells the story of mountain meadows, it is the absolute star of the festival, served in all its forms—from polenta and savory pies to gnocchi and traditional peasant dishes.

The Macagn Festival is much more than a food and wine event: it is the moment when the entire village of Crocemosso gathers around its own flavors and history. Thanks to the commitment of the Pro Loco and the patronage of the Slow Food Macagn Presidium, the UNPLI, and the Municipality of Valdilana, the event promotes a unique product and the alpine identity of the Biellese valleys. Amidst the clear skies of late September and the warmth of the mountain people, the festival is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont.
La Sagra del Macagn torna a Crocemosso di Valdilana per la sua 24ª edizione, confermando l'appuntamento di fine settembre dedicato al formaggio d'alpeggio biellese, Presidio Slow Food. Come da tradizione, il programma dovrebbe svilupparsi su due giornate, con la cena di apertura e la musica dal vivo del sabato, e la domenica il mercato agroalimentare dei produttori, la mostra micologica e il pranzo. Le date e il programma completo saranno confermati dalla Pro Loco Crocemosso nelle settimane precedenti l'evento.

By car: From Biella, reach Valdilana via the SP232 Valle Mosso road (about 20 minutes). The reference motorway is the A4 Turin-Milan, taking the Carisio or Balocco exit. By train: Biella San Paolo station, then continue by bus towards Valle Mosso.
