Manfredonia and Lucio Dalla: A city that never forgets

Lucio Dalla Day is the day that Manfredonia, a city in the province of Foggia overlooking the gulf of the same name, dedicates to the memory of the Bolognese singer-songwriter and the special bond he shared with the local community. The date is no coincidence: March 4th is Lucio Dalla's birthday, the very date made famous by his most autobiographical song, while March 1st marks the anniversary of his passing in 2012. Around these dates, the city builds an event of shared memory, promoted by the Pro Loco of Manfredonia with the patronage of the Municipality of Manfredonia.

The bond between the singer-songwriter and the city

Dalla frequented Manfredonia often, loved spending his days along Corso Manfredi, and forged an affectionate and lasting relationship with the city, as attested by the lifelong friends who still cherish his memory today. In 1997, he was granted honorary citizenship, and just months before his death, he performed in Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII before a moved crowd. The city chose to name its theater after him, the Teatro Lucio Dalla, which serves as the heart of the celebrations.

A city-wide celebration

Lucio Dalla Day is not just a concert, but a day that involves the entire city center:

• the streets of the center are filled with a sound system broadcast playing the singer-songwriter's most beloved songs, creating an evocative and engaging atmosphere;
• participating shops display photographs of the artist in their windows, turning them into narrative spaces dedicated to his memory and his connection to Manfredonia;
• in the evening, the tribute concert at the Teatro Lucio Dalla brings together citizens and fans to relive the most iconic chapters of his repertoire.

Established in 2025 by the Pro Loco, which announced its transformation into a fixed annual appointment, Lucio Dalla Day weaves together music, personal testimonies, and local identity. It is an opportunity to rediscover the Manfredonia that the singer-songwriter loved and to renew, year after year, an affection that the local community considers part of its cultural heritage, in the heart of the Capitanata and Puglia regions.
