A journey through the customs and traditions of the past in the Castagnole hamlet of Germagnano
In the heart of the Valli di Lanzo, the municipality of Germagnano (Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont) dedicates an afternoon to rediscovering its roots with "Lost Knowledge", the local leg of the Festival of Knowledge. The event takes place in the charming Castagnole hamlet, one of the scattered villages in the area, and offers a journey into the gestures, habits, and moments of daily life from the past: a way to preserve those crafts, daily practices, and artisan skills that have defined mountain community life for centuries.
"Lost Knowledge" is one of fifteen events in the Festival of Knowledge, a major cultural project promoted by the Unione Montana Valli di Lanzo, Ceronda e Casternone. From May to September, fifteen municipalities in the region take center stage, each hosting an event tied to a common theme: enhancing the tangible and intangible heritage of the valleys and creating a network of local experiences, knowledge, and traditions. Germagnano is the second stop on the calendar, following "La Cisrร " in Lanzo Torinese, marking the start of the season of events across the various hamlets.
The choice of the Castagnole hamlet is no coincidence: bringing the event to a small village, away from the main town, means shining a light on places that are often overlooked but rich in history, where the daily life of the past is still visible in the houses, courtyards, and handed-down traditions. Participants meet in the early afternoon for a shared experience of storytelling and collective memory, perfect for families, curious visitors, and folklore enthusiasts.
The Festival of Knowledge, symbolized by an open book logo, was born from the idea that knowledge should not remain hidden but be shared with the entire community. The network connects Lanzo Torinese, Germagnano, Balme, Varisella, Coassolo Torinese, Traves, Balangero, Ala di Stura, Vallo Torinese, Cantoira, Pessinetto, Chialamberto, La Cassa, Givoletto, and Corio. For those seeking an authentic experience between Piedmont and the mountains, the Germagnano stop is the ideal opportunity to discover a territory still untouched by mass tourism and to get closer, step by step, to the "lost knowledge" of the Valli di Lanzo.
On May 24, 2026, Germagnano participated in the Festival of Knowledge with "Lost Knowledge", an event hosted in the Castagnole hamlet and designed as a journey into the memory of the Valli di Lanzo. The program offered a path through the gestures, habits, and moments of past life in this corner of the Metropolitan City of Turin, highlighting the farming and artisan culture of the villages. Participants met at 2:30 PM.
