A weekend among mountain chapels, votive shrines, and ancient trails in the Valli di Lanzo
In the heart of the Valli di Lanzo, the small town of Coassolo Torinese (Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont) transforms for a weekend into an open-air museum. "Coassolo between Art and Nature" is the local leg of the Festival of Knowledge, a major cultural project promoted by the Unione Montana Valli di Lanzo, Ceronda e Casternone. From May to September 2026, the initiative involves fifteen local municipalities, each hosting an event tied to a common theme: enhancing the tangible and intangible heritage of the valleys.
The core of the event is an itinerary to discover the territory: mountain chapels, votive shrines scattered along mule tracks, old trails immersed in the alpine landscape, and natural corners that tell centuries of rural life and popular devotion. The starting point and meeting place is the Piazza del Capoluogo, where one can also admire a majestic ancient beech tree, a symbol of the deep bond between the community and its environment.
The weekend is not just about hiking and scenery: art enters the churches and spaces of the village. The Parish Church of Saints Nicola, Pietro and Paolo hosts a concert by the Coro Edelweiss of the CAI of Turin, while a painting exhibition set up specifically for the festival remains open for several days. It is a way to rediscover, through the eyes of artists and choirs, the identity of a mountain village that uses culture as a tool for cohesion and promotion.
Coassolo is one of the fifteen stops of the Festival of Knowledge: a network connecting Lanzo Torinese, Germagnano, Balme, Varisella, Traves, Balangero, Ala di Stura, Vallo Torinese, Cantoira, Pessinetto, Chialamberto, La Cassa, Givoletto, and Corio. The concept, symbolized by the open-book logo, is that knowledge should not remain confined but shared with the entire community. For those seeking an authentic experience between Piedmont and the mountains, the Coassolo stop is the ideal opportunity to discover a valley corner still untouched by mass tourism.
For the weekend of June 20-21, 2026, Coassolo Torinese participates in the Festival of Knowledge with a program combining hiking, art, and music. The village offers a route to discover mountain chapels, votive shrines, and old trails immersed in the alpine landscape, with a meeting point in Piazza del Capoluogo, where an ancient beech tree also stands. Culture enters the village's iconic spots with musical events and an art exhibition set up for the occasion.
For detailed times of individual events and program updates, it is recommended to contact the Municipality of Coassolo Torinese.
Coassolo Torinese can be reached by car from Turin in about 50 minutes, following the signs for the Valli di Lanzo (exit at Lanzo Torinese and then follow signs for Coassolo). The main meeting point is the Piazza del Capoluogo.
Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, 2026. The art exhibition remains open to visitors in the following days as well.
