About Loquat and Spaghetti Festival

Every year at the end of May, the coastal village of Trabia, in the province of Palermo, celebrates two pillars of its identity: the fragrant loquats grown on the hills sloping down to the sea, and spaghetti, for which the town claims an ancient heritage. The Loquat and Spaghetti Festival fills the historic center with free tastings, show cooking, traditional puppet theater, folk groups, flag-wavers, and evening performances in a popular celebration that weaves together gastronomy, tradition, and Mediterranean heritage.

A celebration of loquats and spaghetti

The Loquat and Spaghetti Festival is one of the most anticipated late-spring events in the town of Trabia, located on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily. For two days, the village's historic center turns into a vibrant festival space where stalls, tastings, and performances celebrate two local treasures deeply rooted in the region's history: loquats and pasta.

The loquats of Trabia

Sweet and fragrant, these loquats are grown across hundreds of hectares in the coastal and hilly belt around Trabia, where the mild climate and sea exposure ensure exceptional quality. During the festival, visitors can taste and purchase fresh fruit, as well as discover derivative products like loquat jam, a key ingredient in traditional pairings such as pasta and sfince.

The home of spaghetti

Trabia claims a historical primacy regarding pasta: the Arab geographer Al-Idrisi, in his famous Book of Roger from 1154, described the village as a place where large quantities of thread-like pasta, called itrya, were manufactured and exported throughout the Mediterranean. This is why many consider Trabia the cradle of spaghetti, a tradition that the festival commemorates and celebrates every year.

Program and atmosphere

The event offers a rich calendar of activities spread across the town's squares and streets:

  • Free tastings of loquat-based dishes and pasta;
  • Show cooking and culinary demonstrations featuring renowned chefs;
  • Puppet theater (Opera dei Pupi) and Sicilian storytellers, expressions of the island's folk heritage;
  • Folk groups, street musicians, and flag-wavers;
  • Ethno-anthropological and photography exhibitions, a vintage car rally, and evening shows in Piazza Lanza.

A growing tradition

Organized by the Municipality of Trabia with the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Palermo and the collaboration of the Pro Loco Trabia San Nicola APS and numerous local associations, the festival is now a must-attend event that draws visitors from across the Palermo province. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic seaside village, savor its specialties, and immerse yourself in Sicilian folk traditions in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

Loquat and Spaghetti Festival — edition 2026

The 27th Loquat and Spaghetti Festival took place in Trabia on May 23-24, 2026, bringing the historic center of the Palermo village to life with two days dedicated to local loquats and the ancient pasta tradition. With free tastings, show cooking, puppet theater, and folk groups, the event reaffirmed the deep bond between Trabia and its signature products.
