A tradition that tells the story of Fauglia

Lo Scudo di Faullia is much more than an awards ceremony: it is the moment when Fauglia, a small village in the Pisan hills in the province of Pisa, recognizes itself as a community. Every year, in the setting of Piazza Trento e Trieste, the municipal administration confers the historic Shield (Scudo) upon illustrious and deserving citizens who have upheld the town's name in Tuscany and beyond. The event, which began in the 1990s, is now a permanent fixture on the civic calendar and reaches its 32nd edition in 2026.

Who is awarded

The heart of the evening is the presentation of awards, divided into various categories that span all stages of a town's life:

• Scudo dei Piccoli (Children's Shield): the official welcome of newborns into the Fauglia community, with the presentation of a small symbolic shield to their families.
• 18-year-olds' Shield: new eighteen-year-olds are presented with the Constitution of the Italian Republic and the Tricolour flag, a gesture of welcome into active citizenship.
• Golden Weddings: a tribute to couples celebrating fifty years of marriage.
• Fauglia Studies: recognition for recent graduates and students who have distinguished themselves through merit.
• Sports Merits: awards for local athletes who have excelled in their disciplines.
• Special Mentions: for those who have distinguished themselves in cultural, scientific, social, and civic fields, bringing prestige to Fauglia.

Over the years, the Shield has been awarded to local personalities and companies: in the 2024 edition, for example, awards went to the industrial group Dumarey, Matteo Rossi, and Claudia Monteverdi.

How the evening unfolds

The day begins in the afternoon, around 6:00 PM, with the Scudo dei Piccoli dedicated to the youngest residents and their families. The official part, featuring the presentation of shields and awards in the presence of the Mayor and local authorities, then enlivens the square in the evening. Between awards, there is no shortage of musical moments, entertainment, and the conviviality typical of Tuscan village festivals, in an atmosphere that combines civic solemnity with popular warmth.

Fauglia and the Pisan hills

Fauglia is a small municipality in the Province of Pisa, Tuscany, immersed in the hills between the Arno river and the sea. With its hamlets of Acciaiolo, Luciana, and Valtriano, it preserves the identity of a hillside village where civic and community traditions are still very much alive. Lo Scudo di Faullia is its most heartfelt expression: a festival that speaks of belonging, memory, and the future, drawing families, awardees, and curious visitors to the square every June.
