"Facciamo la Festa al Maiale" is the gastronomic festival that enlivens the small hamlet of Il Bocco, in the Municipality of Casina, on the first hills of the Apennines in the Province of Reggio Emilia. Organized by the M&B Group, the event celebrates one of the most cherished traditions of this territory: the processing of pork and the art of butchery passed down from generation to generation in the homes and farms of the Reggio Apennines.

The Mountain Pork Butchery Tradition

For centuries, in the peasant families of the Emilia Apennines, the slaughter of the pig and the subsequent processing of the meat represented a central moment of the year, capable of bringing together relatives and neighbors in a day of shared work and celebration. "Facciamo la Festa al Maiale" revives and stages this ancient ritual, transforming it into an event open to all, where you can observe the live processing demonstrations up close and taste the freshly prepared products.

What to Eat

The heart of the festival is, of course, the food. Among the featured specialties:

• Cracklings (Ciccioli) prepared on the spot, fragrant and crispy
• Fried dumplings (Gnocco fritto), the savory fritter that is a symbol of Emilian cuisine, to be paired with cured meats and cheeses
• Casagai, a local specialty, also available for takeaway
• Tastings of cured meats and typical products from the Reggio Apennines

More Than Just Gastronomy

Alongside the food stalls, the day offers markets with typical products and crafts, music, and entertainment for adults and children, in a convivial village atmosphere. The festival takes place outdoors and indoors, from morning to late afternoon. In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to a later date.
