The grand Krampus parade returns to Laces after eight years
The Krampusschaulauf is the signature event of the Latscher Tuifl, the association in Laces (Latsch), Vinschgau Valley, that preserves the ancient tradition of the Tuifl—the devils of the Alps. Now in its sixth edition as a Tuifl- und Krampustreffen, the event finally returns to the village after an eight-year break; the last major gathering took place in the mid-2010s, and the community has been eagerly awaiting its comeback. The date is set for Saturday, November 14, 2026.
In South Tyrolean and alpine tradition, the Krampus (known locally as Tuifl) are demonic figures who accompany Saint Nicholas during the Advent season to frighten and test people. A Schaulauf (literally a "show-run") is a gathering where multiple groups parade one after another before the public, showcasing hand-carved wooden masks, heavy furs, horns, deafening cowbells, and choreography featuring fire and smoke effects. It is not a religious procession, but a true spectacle of intense visual and auditory impact.
The event brings the center of Laces to life for an entire day:
The evening party at the CulturForum is restricted to adults only (18+).
Around thirty groups of Krampus and Tuifl from across the alpine region are expected to attend: from South Tyrol, Austria, and Switzerland. Each company brings its own unique style, masks, and mise en scène, transforming the streets of Laces into an open-air stage. It is a rare opportunity to admire the richness of the craftsmanship tied to this tradition in one place, from stone pine wood masks to handmade fur costumes.
Located in the heart of the Vinschgau Valley, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (Trentino-South Tyrol), the municipality of Laces/Latsch is one of the places where the Tuifl culture is most vibrant. Alongside the Krampusschaulauf, the Latscher Tuifl also organize the annual Saint Nicholas parade in early December. However, the gathering on November 14, 2026, is the most anticipated event, drawing enthusiasts and curious visitors to Laces from across South Tyrol and beyond.
On November 14, 2026, Laces hosts the sixth edition of the Tuifl- und Krampustreffen, returning after a long break. The program includes the opening of stalls at 1:00 PM, the grand Krampus parade at 5:00 PM through the village center, and the evening party at the CulturForum from 9:00 PM, restricted to adults. About thirty groups from across the alpine region are expected. To reach the event, a parking area is available in the Mivor industrial zone with a shuttle service.
Laces (Latsch) is located in the Vinschgau Valley, along the SS38 state road between Merano and Silandro. By train, the Laces station is served by the Vinschgau Valley line (Merano–Malles). By car from Bolzano, take the MeBo highway to Merano and then the SS38 heading west.
A parking area is provided in the Mivor industrial zone, from which a shuttle service will take visitors directly to the event center.
Village festival from 1:00 PM to 1:00 AM; main parade at 5:00 PM; evening party at the CulturForum from 9:00 PM, restricted to adults (18+).
November in the Vinschgau Valley is cold: warm clothing is highly recommended. Please keep an eye on children during the parade due to the loud noise and fire effects.
