About LanaLive

LanaLive is a multidisciplinary cultural festival that transforms the town of Lana, near Merano, into a vibrant hub of concerts, performances, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops every spring. Each edition explores a current social or cultural theme through the eyes of international and local artists. For ten days, the municipality of Lana becomes a true "theatre of the world," where contemporary art, music, and reflection engage with the South Tyrolean landscape.

A cultural festival in the heart of South Tyrol

LanaLive is the multidisciplinary cultural festival that brings the town of Lana to life every spring. Nestled at the foot of Monte San Vigilio, just a few kilometres from Merano in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-South Tyrol), the town becomes a "theatre of the world" for ten days. Squares, the covered market, and local cultural venues host a blend of concerts, performances, art exhibitions, theatre, lectures, and workshops. It is a bilingual event, deeply rooted in South Tyrolean culture yet with a distinctly international outlook.

A unique theme for every edition

The hallmark of LanaLive is its annual focus on a central theme, explored through a transdisciplinary approach. Past editions have investigated public space, architecture, and memory, engaging artists, scholars, and local citizens. The festival prioritizes site-specific artistic interventions that dialogue with Lana's unique locations and the community's daily life: a concert on a train, an installation at the market, or a public lecture.

Art, music, and ideas

The programme weaves together diverse languages: live music (ranging from electronic beats to traditional bands like the Bürgerkapelle Lana), theatre, contemporary dance, visual arts, cinema, and discussions with researchers and guest speakers. Alongside evening performances, the festival features participatory workshops and projects that directly involve residents, striking a balance between high-quality artistic offerings and community engagement.

Lana and its surroundings

Located in the Burgraviato area near Merano, Lana is renowned for its apple orchards, mild climate, and proximity to Monte San Vigilio. LanaLive embraces this setting, showcasing the town's spaces and offering residents and visitors alike a chance to experience contemporary culture in an authentic South Tyrolean environment, where tradition meets experimentation.

Practical information

The festival typically takes place in May and lasts about ten days. The detailed programme is published annually on the official website lanalive.it, featuring both free and ticketed events. For updates on dates, venues, and tickets, please check the official website and social media channels.

LanaLive — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of LanaLive took place from 8 to 17 May with the theme "Topographie des Fühlens" (Topography of Feeling), exploring the question: what does a place feel? For ten days, Lana became a resonant space for concerts, performances, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops dedicated to emotions as social forces, featuring international artists and local contributors.

LanaLive 2026: The Topography of Feeling

The 2026 edition of LanaLive, held from 8 to 17 May in Lana (province of Bolzano), was titled «Topographie des Fühlens» (Topography of Feeling). It investigated how emotions—anger, fear, pride, empathy—are not merely private matters but social forces capable of building or dividing communities.

Highlights included: the immersive exhibition «Hinterbühne der Gefühle» at the Raiffeisenhaus Lana, Mona Lisa Tina's participatory project on shame and intimacy, a lecture by historian Ute Frevert on politics and emotions, the electronic concert «Gefühlsrauschen» with The Bugfix, a screening of the film It Follows, and the closing performance «Klang in Bewegung», which combined traditional brass band music with contemporary dance. The programme also included theatrical performances, painting workshops, and family-friendly activities.
