About La Mangiaunta

La Mangiaunta is the great extra virgin olive oil festival of Giano dell'Umbria, in the province of Perugia. Spanning late October and November, the medieval village celebrates the prized San Felice single-cultivar olive oil with mill visits, tastings, show cooking, workshops, music, and walks. Part of the Frantoi Aperti circuit, it's one of the most delicious events of the Umbrian autumn.

The new oil takes center stage in Giano dell'Umbria

La Mangiaunta is the festival dedicated to extra virgin olive oil in Giano dell'Umbria, a medieval village in the province of Perugia. The event specifically celebrates the San Felice single-cultivar variety, which characterizes the area and makes it unique in the Italian olive oil landscape.

Among oil mills, tastings, and rural tradition

The medieval village becomes the vibrant heart of the festival, with tastings, live music, readings, street artists, and shows. Among the most popular experiences are the visits to the local oil mills — Frantoio Filippi, Moretti Omero, Del Sero, Oro di Giano, Speranza, Agricola Locci — where you can witness the pressing process and taste the new oil. Free shuttle buses connect the parking areas to the historic center and the oil mills every fifteen minutes.

Part of the Frantoi Aperti circuit

La Mangiaunta is part of the regional Frantoi Aperti (Open Oil Mills) circuit, which opens the doors of Umbrian oil mills to visitors and enthusiasts in the autumn. In addition to tastings, the program offers activities for children and adults, oil-themed aperitifs in accommodation facilities, and walks and trekking through the olive groves. It's an opportunity to discover the oil culture and the rural identity of the Umbria Region.
