The extra virgin olive oil festival of Giano dell'Umbria
La Mangiaunta is the festival dedicated to extra virgin olive oil in Giano dell'Umbria, a medieval village in the province of Perugia. The event particularly celebrates the San Felice monocultivar, a variety that characterises the area and makes it unique in the Italian olive oil landscape.
The medieval village becomes the beating heart of the festival, with tastings, live music, readings, street artists, and performances. Among the most popular experiences are the visits to the local oil mills — Frantoio Filippi, Moretti Omero, Del Sero, Oro di Giano, Speranza, Agricola Locci — where you can witness the pressing process and taste the new oil. Free shuttle buses connect the car parks to the historic centre and the oil mills every fifteen minutes.
La Mangiaunta is part of the regional Frantoi Aperti circuit, which opens the doors of Umbrian oil mills to visitors and enthusiasts in the autumn. In addition to tastings, the programme offers activities for children and adults, oil-themed aperitifs in accommodation facilities, walks, and trekking through the olive groves. It's an opportunity to discover the culture of olive oil and the rural identity of the Umbria Region.
The 20th edition of La Mangiaunta is expected in autumn 2026 in Giano dell'Umbria (province of Perugia), as usual between late October and early November, during the new oil pressing season.
The programme will include the elements that characterise the festival: visits to local oil mills, tastings of the San Felice monocultivar oil, show cooking, workshops for adults and children, live music, and walks through the olive groves. The precise dates for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organisers as part of the Frantoi Aperti circuit.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be published by the organisers. As per tradition, the festival includes:
