About Open Oil Mills

For five weekends, Umbria celebrates its DOP extra virgin olive oil with the largest olive oil tourism event in Italy. Open Oil Mills brings visitors inside the active oil mills, with tastings of the new oil, trekking in the Assisi-Spoleto Olive Belt, markets, concerts, themed dinners, and family activities. A widespread journey through the most beautiful villages in the region — from Montefalco to Trevi, from Spello to Assisi, from Bevagna to Campello sul Clitunno — to discover the culture of olive oil.

The new oil takes center stage throughout Umbria

Open Oil Mills in Umbria is the flagship event of Italian olive oil tourism. Organized by the Strada dell'Olio DOP Umbria Association, every autumn it transforms the region into a large, widespread itinerary dedicated to DOP extra virgin olive oil. The event, founded in the late nineties, has grown to involve dozens of villages, oil mills, and farms, coinciding with the olive harvest and first pressing season.

Five weekends among villages and olive groves

For five weekends, the region's oil mills open their doors to visitors to showcase the olive processing and offer tastings of the freshly pressed oil. A rich program unfolds around this production hub: tastings, trekking along the Assisi-Spoleto Olive Belt, markets, exhibitions, concerts among ancient olive trees, themed dinners, and activities for children. The five Umbrian olive-growing areas — Colli del Trasimeno, Colli Martani, Colli Assisi e Spoleto, Colli Orvietani, and Colli Amerini — all play a starring role.

The villages celebrating the oil festival

Among the municipalities animating the event are Montefalco, Trevi, Spello, Assisi, Bevagna, Giano dell'Umbria, Castel Ritaldi, and Campello sul Clitunno, each with its own events dedicated to olive oil and local culture. Open Oil Mills is now a national benchmark for those who want to experience authentic Umbria, with its olive landscapes, medieval villages, and seasonal flavors.

Open Oil Mills — edition 2026

The new edition of Open Oil Mills in Umbria takes place from October 17 to November 15, 2026, with five weekends of widespread olive oil tourism among open oil mills, tastings of the new oil, trekking, markets, and themed dinners in the region's villages, from Montefalco to Trevi.

The 2026 edition of Open Oil Mills in Umbria runs from October 17 to November 15, spread over five weekends. Organized by the Strada dell'Olio DOP Umbria Association, the event focuses on immersive experiences, valorization of lesser-known destinations, and engagement of new audiences. As every year, the region's oil mills open for the pressing and tasting of the new oil, accompanied by trekking along the Olive Belt, markets, concerts among ancient olive trees, and themed dinners in the villages of Montefalco, Trevi, Spello, Assisi, Bevagna, Giano dell'Umbria, and Campello sul Clitunno.
