An autumn festival in the heart of Sabina

Every year, around the feast of St. Martin, the village of Colli sul Velino comes alive for one of its most cherished celebrations: San Martino - New Wine, Ancient Flavors. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Colli sul Velino APS in partnership with the Municipality of Colli sul Velino and the Laghi Lungo e Ripasottile Nature Reserve, celebrates the arrival of new wine and the genuine flavors of the Rieti countryside tradition.

New wine and St. Martin's Summer

The festival is rooted in an ancient rural custom: in November, when the must turns into wine, the first barrel was opened to taste the new wine. It is the time of St. Martin's Summer, those days of mild sunshine that offer one last breath of warmth before winter. The popular saying "at St. Martin's, every must becomes wine" perfectly summarizes the spirit of this day, dedicated to good drinking and conviviality.

Traditional flavors

The heart of the event is culinary: stalls and stands offer typical local products, accompanied by new wine. Seasonal highlights include roasted chestnuts, cured meats, local cheeses, and dishes from the Sabina "cucina povera," in a journey of taste that enhances the authentic flavors of the Rieti hills.

Culture, nature, and community

Beyond the gastronomy, the day includes cultural and recreational events designed for everyone, of all ages. The setting is the picturesque village of Colli sul Velino and its territory, nestled between the lakes of the Laghi Lungo e Ripasottile Nature Reserve, one of the most valuable natural areas in the province of Rieti, in the Lazio region.
