A widespread contemporary art festival across the Langhe and Roero hills
La Collina Sale Sempre is a contemporary art festival that weaves together original works, vineyard landscapes, and local history. Established in 2024 and promoted by the Artefora Association, the event is headquartered in Castiglione Tinella, a small town in the province of Cuneo nestled among the Moscato hills. From there, the festival spreads across five other towns in the Langhe and Roero areas: Mango, Neive, Barbaresco, Santo Stefano Belbo, and Castagnole delle Lanze.
The hallmark of the festival is the site-specific nature of the works: each installation is conceived for its host location, engaging with its history and unique characteristics. The exhibition venues are among the most evocative in the region: the ARTEFORA exhibition center in Castiglione Tinella, the Colline del Moscato Regional Enoteca in Mango, the church of Santa Maria del Piano in Neive, the Tower of Barbaresco, the church of Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo in Santo Stefano Belbo, and the historic courtyards of Castagnole delle Lanze. Churches, Romanesque bell towers, cellars, and farmhouses thus become temporary art spaces.
Since its inception, the festival has showcased artists from around the world: alongside Italian names, creatives from Latvia, Uruguay, Brazil, the United States, and Argentina participate. This international vocation turns a corner of Piedmont into a hub for contemporary research, supporting Alba's bid for the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2027 as part of the Orma project.
La Collina Sale Sempre is more than just a display: the program includes international artist residencies, workshops, meetings, guided tours, musical performances, and food and wine tastings held in partnership with local wineries. It is an invitation to discover the Langhe at a slow pace, moving from one town to the next through art, wine, and tradition.
The third edition of the widespread contemporary art festival takes place from June 20 to July 5, 2026, in the towns of Castiglione Tinella, Mango, Neive, Barbaresco, Santo Stefano Belbo, and Castagnole delle Lanze. Curated by Marzia Capannolo, the central theme is transformation, inspired by a passage from The Moon and the Bonfires by Cesare Pavese. Sixteen artists from Italy, Latvia, Uruguay, Brazil, the United States, and Argentina create site-specific works designed to dialogue with the memory and characteristics of each location. This edition is part of the Orma project, supporting Alba's bid for the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2027.
Works are also exhibited at the Tower of Barbaresco, in the church of Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo in Santo Stefano Belbo, and in the historic courtyards of Castagnole delle Lanze.
Artists of the 2026 edition: Beatriz Basso, Angelo Bellobono, Selene Bertagnini, Māris Čačka, Carolina Cairo, Lorenzo Capolupi, Adriana Carambia, Gisella Chaudry, Luigi Coppola, Brenda Frank, Lucia Harari, Lori Larusso, Rita Miranda, Yara Piras, Ale Recosta, and Nicola Rotiroti.
Main venue: ARTEFORA, Castiglione Tinella (CN), Piedmont. The festival is widespread and also includes Mango, Neive, Barbaresco, Santo Stefano Belbo, and Castagnole delle Lanze.
Castiglione Tinella can be reached by car from the motorway exits near Asti and Alba. The railway station on the Alessandria–Cavallermaggiore line connects the town to the rest of Piedmont. A car is recommended to visit all the different festival locations.
Festival openings and exhibitions are free and open to the public. Some side activities (tastings, workshops) may require booking.
