Guarene hosts the opening and closing of this widespread chamber music festival across the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato hills
Colline in Musica is a touring chamber music festival that travels through the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato territories every June, bringing prestigious performances to Piedmont's historic castles, churches, convents, palaces, and theaters. Organized by the MUST association as part of Roero Cultural Events, in collaboration with the I'm Exchange Association, the festival offers an intimate and refined experience: hour-long concerts often followed by social gatherings and dinners with the artists, all held in venues chosen for their beauty and historical significance.
Among the many locations featured, Guarene—an elegant village in the Roero area of the Cuneo province, overlooking the UNESCO-listed hills—holds a special place: it is here that the festival begins and ends each year. The Castello di Guarene, a splendid 18th-century residence, hosts the opening concert, while Palazzo Re Rebaudengo, home to the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, welcomes the closing night. These two iconic landmarks make Guarene the starting and finishing point of a month-long musical journey.
A hallmark of Colline in Musica is its ability to foster dialogue between different cultures and traditions: alongside Italian performers, the festival invites musicians from all over the world—from China to Armenia, Romania to Albania, and Japan to France. Under the artistic direction of violinist Adrian Pinzaru, the festival pursues a bold vision, showcasing emerging young talents alongside established artists and presenting both new compositions and lesser-known repertoire.
The festival was born from a desire to unite classical music with the extraordinary backdrop of the Piedmontese hills, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Each concert becomes an immersive experience for both the ears and the eyes, guiding the public to discover villages and historic sites that might otherwise remain hidden gems, from Barolo to Grinzane Cavour, and from Cortemilia to the Reggia di Venaria.
All festival concerts, including the evenings in Guarene, are free of charge, with booking generally recommended via the official website. This choice reflects the festival's mission: to make great music accessible to everyone and to root it deeply in the cultural fabric of the Piedmont region.
Guarene is located in the Roero area, in the province of Cuneo, just a few kilometers from Alba. By car, it can be reached via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Alba exit) or the A6 Turin-Savona motorway. The nearest train station is in Alba, which is connected to Turin and Asti.
In Guarene, the inaugural concert is held at the Castello di Guarene, while the closing evening takes place at Palazzo Re Rebaudengo. Other festival events are held in numerous locations across the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato areas.
Admission is free. Booking is recommended on the official website www.roeroculturalevents.it, where you can also find information on dining, accommodation, and local tours.
