Night walks through the villages and crags of the Roero region
Notturni nelle Rocche is one of the most beloved summer events in the Roero region: a traveling series of evening walks organized by the Ecomuseo delle Rocche del Roero, based in Montà, in collaboration with around thirty local Pro Loco associations and cultural groups. Every year, about twenty night walks visit as many municipalities in the Sinistra Tanaro area, in the province of Cuneo and the heart of Piedmont. For the 2026 season, the inaugural stage is hosted in Castellinaldo d'Alba.
The evenings take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, from June until the beginning of September, with a break in August. Participants meet at 8:45 PM for registration, with the walk starting at 9:00 PM. Each route is unique, covering approximately 5 kilometers and lasting about two hours, including the entertainment or educational segment. The walk concludes with a social gathering featuring herbal teas and light refreshments.
The beauty of the Notturni lies in the alternation between theatrical walks, enlivened by different companies at each stop, and walks dedicated to botanical, wildlife, historical, artistic, and literary insights. Each edition follows a thematic thread: in 2026, the performances revolve around mysteries, thrillers, and cold cases, featuring spooky tales and dark narratives set along the trails and villages of Roero.
Castellinaldo d'Alba is a small town in the province of Cuneo overlooking the Roero hills, renowned for its vineyards and Barbera wine. Piazza Aie and the historic center provide the backdrop for the festival's opening stage, curated by the Associazione Castrum Aynaldi.
Notturni nelle Rocche is much more than a simple hike: it is a way to discover the hilly landscape of Roero after sunset, highlighting the trails, sand crags, and villages of the twenty municipalities that form a network around the Ecomuseum. The event is supported by local organizations and foundations and has become a staple of the Cuneo summer season.
The 17th edition of Notturni nelle Rocche kicks off on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Castellinaldo d'Alba and continues every Tuesday and Friday until September 8, 2026, with the usual summer break in August. About twenty walks are planned in as many Roero municipalities, under the theme «Mysteries, thrillers, and cold cases».
