The La Cantera Youth Soccer Tournament is the summer highlight dedicated to grassroots football. Gissi, the local football club based on Via dello Stadio, the event has become a well-established tradition: the sixth edition took place in 2024, followed by the seventh in June 2025, reinforcing a project designed to help young people grow through sport.

A tournament for the youngest players

The tournament is reserved for youth categories, with a special focus on the youngest age groups: the Gissi pitches host matches for pulcini (chicks) and other grassroots levels, fostering a healthy competitive atmosphere that prioritizes play, fair play, and participation. Matches are spread over several days throughout the month, involving soccer schools and youth teams from neighboring towns, giving kids the chance to compete under the watchful eyes of families and fans.

The setting is Gissi, a town of just over 2,600 residents in the province of Chieti, nestled between two tributaries of the Sinello River and surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. An ancient center of the Middle Vastese, Gissi preserves its medieval core, including the Palazzo Carunchio and the ruins of the old castle. It is also famous for the tradition of ventricina, the local cured meat. The youth tournament is a key part of the village's social life, bringing the enthusiasm of the new generation to the municipal fields.
