About 6/8 Hours of Paglieta

The 6/8 Hours City of Paglieta is an endurance running race that transforms the historic center of this Chieti village into a 1,020-meter closed-traffic asphalt loop. Established in 2024, the event features 6 and 8-hour timed challenges, valid for the IUTA Ultramarathon Grand Prix and the Ultra Abruzzo Circuit, alongside a non-competitive 10 km run open to everyone. A late December tradition blending sport, local festivities, and Abruzzese hospitality, attracting over two hundred athletes from across Italy.

An ultramarathon in the heart of Paglieta

The 6/8 Hours City of Paglieta is an endurance running race held in the historic center of Paglieta, a village in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo. The course is a 1,020-meter asphalt loop with an elevation gain of approximately 15-18 meters per lap, winding through the village alleys which are completely closed to traffic. Athletes run the same circuit repeatedly, accumulating kilometers and laps until time expires: the winner is the one who covers the greatest distance within the set hours.

The challenges: 6 hours, 8 hours, and the 10 km

The event offers various formats designed for both ultramarathon specialists and amateur runners:

  • 8 hours: the flagship event, reserved for long-distance athletes, starting early in the morning;
  • 6 hours: an endurance test valid as a regional championship race;
  • 10 km non-competitive: open to all, allowing participants to experience the race atmosphere without the pressure of timing.

The day unfolds from the dawn meeting point until the afternoon finish, featuring refreshment stations along the course, commemorative medals, race packs, and the traditional final pasta party serving typical Abruzzese dishes.

A national ultramarathon circuit

Since its first edition, the race has been UISP-certified and included in major national and regional circuits: the IUTA Ultramarathon Grand Prix, the Central-South Regional Criterium, and the Ultra Abruzzo Road, Sand, and Trail Circuit. This recognition has brought athletes from various Italian regions to Paglieta, attracting historic ultramarathon clubs and runners seeking circuit ranking points.

A local festival

The 6/8 Hours City of Paglieta is organized by ASD I Lupi d'Abruzzo in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Paglieta APS and with the support of the municipal administration. Beyond the competitive aspect, the event involves the entire village: the closure of the historic center to traffic, live music, refreshment points, and the pasta party make the day a true collective celebration, where the community of Paglieta cheers on the runners lap after lap during the last weekend of the year.

When it takes place

The race is traditionally held in late December: the first edition took place on December 28, 2024, and the second on December 27, 2025. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers.
