About L'Étape Mondovì

A true Tour de France stage, open to everyone: L'Étape Mondovì by Tour de France is the amateur cycling granfondo that transforms Mondovì, in the province of Cuneo, into the heart of the prestigious international L'Étape Italy circuit on September 20, 2026. With roads closed to traffic, challenging climbs between the Monregalese area and the Alta Langa, a vibrant event village, and the world-class organization of the Grande Boucle, the event features two routes—a 110.5 km Granfondo and a 60.3 km Cicloturistica—for a ride immersed in the landscapes of the 'Provincia Granda'.

A Tour de France stage in the heart of Piedmont

L'Étape Mondovì by Tour de France is the amateur cycling granfondo that brings the unique atmosphere of the Grande Boucle to the town of Mondovì, in the province of Cuneo. Following the success of its 2025 debut—originally launched as the Granfondo Alpi del Mare—the event joins the prestigious international L'Étape Italy circuit in 2026, the official brand linked to the Tour de France that brings the experience of a real stage of the world's most famous cycling race to riders everywhere.

The date is set for Sunday, September 20, 2026: thousands of cyclists from Italy and abroad will gather in Mondovì for a day of sport, endurance, and celebration, with the roads of the Monregalese area completely closed to traffic.

Two routes between the Monregalese and Alta Langa

The event offers two tracks designed for every level of fitness:

  • Granfondo — 110.5 km with 2,271 meters of elevation gain, a demanding route crossing the municipalities of Mondovì, Briaglia, Bastia Mondovì, Cigliè, Clavesana, Murazzano, Torresina, Igliano, Castellino Tanaro, Niella Tanaro, Vicoforte, Montaldo di Mondovì, Frabosa Soprana, Frabosa Sottana, and Monastero di Vasco.
  • Cicloturistica — 60.3 km with 1,104 meters of elevation gain, ideal for those who want to live the L'Étape experience without tackling the full long-distance course.

New for the 2026 route are the Sbaranzo and Oberti climbs, fresh challenges that make the battle through the hills between the Monregalese and the Alta Langa even more selective, set against a backdrop of villages, vineyards, and views of the Maritime Alps.

More than just a race: a village and a festival

The L'Étape format is one of the most established in amateur cycling globally, aiming to offer participants an experience as close as possible to a real Tour de France stage by replicating its organization, safety, and atmosphere. The race is surrounded by a lively event village, featuring an expo area, street food, music, and entertainment that bring the historic center of Mondovì to life.

The spectacular finish is set in the evocative Piazza Maggiore in the Mondovì Piazza district, one of the most charming Baroque squares in Piedmont. The event is organized by EPT - Eventi Persone Territorio, in collaboration with ExtraGiro and the Alpi del Mare committee, with the support of local institutions and communities.

A showcase for the 'Provincia Granda'

L'Étape Mondovì is more than just a sporting event; it is an opportunity to promote the territory of the 'Provincia Granda', its roads, its villages, and its food and wine. Mondovì, with its famous funicular and the historic district atop the hill, provides the ideal setting for an event that combines cycling passion with the celebration of Piedmont.

L'Étape Mondovì — edition 2026

The second edition, and the first under the L'Étape Italy by Tour de France brand, takes place on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Mondovì. Two routes with roads closed to traffic, new climbs, and an event village in the heart of the 'Provincia Granda'.

On September 20, 2026, Mondovì hosts the edition that marks the official entry of the event into the international L'Étape Italy by Tour de France circuit. A few weeks after registration opened, L'Étape Mondovì and its sister event, L'Étape Piemonte, had already surpassed 1,600 participants from Italy and abroad, a sign of the strength of the project led by EPT - Eventi Persone Territorio.

The two tracks are confirmed, with start and finish in Mondovì and roads completely closed to traffic, surrounding an event village with an expo area, street food, and entertainment.
