A night of evocative atmospheres in the Furore Fjord
The Janarea Mystic Fest is the most unusual event of the 2026 summer in Furore, a small town in the province of Salerno, Campania, overlooking the Amalfi Coast. The evening is scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026, at 9:00 PM, set against the backdrop of the Furore Fjord, perhaps the most photographed and scenic spot on the entire Amalfi coastline. As announced in the municipal program, the event blends performance and evocative atmospheres in a setting that seems tailor-made for storytelling: a narrow inlet between two rock walls, a bridge suspended dozens of meters above the water, a handful of fishermen's houses, and the sound of the sea entering the gorge.
The title chosen for the festival recalls the figure of the janara, the witch of Campanian folklore, a protagonist of legends widespread throughout the region and linked especially to the Sannio area, but which also lives on in the imagination of coastal villages. It is a reference that places the event within the trend of mystical and legendary themed evenings that have captivated many towns in the South in recent years, where oral heritage—tales of witches, omens, and nocturnal rituals—becomes material for open-air performances. In Furore, this imagery meets a landscape that amplifies every suggestion: at dusk, the fjord empties of bathers, leaving only the darkness of the gorge, the echo, and artificial light.
The Janarea Mystic Fest is not an isolated event: it is part of the fifth edition of "Facciamo Furore", the summer program promoted by the municipal administration that accompanies the village from July to September. The 2026 calendar includes six events distributed across the most suggestive locations in the town:
The Municipality's stated goal is to offer opportunities for meeting and sharing in the most beautiful spots of the town, with events designed for all ages capable of enhancing the territory even outside mass tourism circuits.
The Furore Fjord is not geologically a fjord but a ria, an incision carved into the rock by the Schiato stream. The bridge that spans it has hosted stages of the high diving world championships for years, and at the base of the gorge, a small fishing village survives with the ancient mill eco-museum. It is a compact, almost theatrical space where the audience gathers along the small beach and on the rock steps: a condition that makes capacity necessarily limited and makes arriving well in advance of the start time advisable.
Furore is known as "the village that isn't there" and as a painted village: just under seven hundred inhabitants distributed in houses scattered along the slope, without a real central square, and dozens of murals created by Italian and foreign artists on the facades of the houses. Since 1997, the territory has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, along with the entire Amalfi Coast. The town also preserves historic churches such as that of Sant'Elia Profeta, with a 1492 triptych, and is linked to the memory of the writer Luciano De Crescenzo, who is buried in the local cemetery. Those who come up for the Janarea Mystic Fest therefore have the opportunity to discover one of the most unique villages in Campania on the same day.
On an Amalfi Coast that lives on crowded days and glamorous evenings in summer, the Janarea Mystic Fest offers something different: an evening event, free in the spirit of the municipal program, built on the identity of the place rather than a lineup of big names. It is an opportunity to see the fjord in a light that daytime visitors don't know, on a late August evening when the village tells its story through its own legends.
On August 24, 2026, starting from 9:00 PM, the Furore Fjord hosts the Janarea Mystic Fest, an evening that the Municipality of Furore describes as an event capable of combining performance and evocative atmospheres in one of the most suggestive places on the Amalfi Coast.
The event is the fourth of six appointments in the fifth edition of "Facciamo Furore," the municipal summer festival which in 2026 opens on July 18 with a candlelight concert on the Viale dell'Amore and closes on September 5 with the Prickly Pear Festival at Parco della Pellerina.
Given the conformation of the fjord, with access to the small beach via a long staircase carved into the rock, it is advisable to arrive well in advance of the start time.
Monday, August 24, 2026, 9:00 PM, Furore Fjord (Furore, province of Salerno).
From the bridge, a staircase of about 200 steps carved into the rock descends to the small fishing village: 10-15 minutes downhill, longer on the way back up. Closed non-slip shoes and a flashlight for the evening return are recommended; the path is not suitable for people with mobility issues.
At the moment, the Municipality of Furore has not released information regarding entry and tickets for this evening. It is advisable to check the official municipal channels in the days leading up to the event.
There are few accommodation facilities in Furore; Amalfi, Praiano, Conca dei Marini, and Positano offer a wide choice of hotels and B&Bs just a few kilometers away, all connected by the SITA Sud line.
