In the heart of summer, while the Amalfi Coast is at its busiest, something special happens in Tramonti that primarily involves the locals: the Treasure Hunt. This team challenge reaches its 55th edition in 2026, confirming its status as one of the town's longest-running events. It is not a tourist attraction, but a local ritual passed down from generation to generation, which is precisely why it has become one of the most authentic summer experiences in the province of Salerno, in Campania.

Tramonti, the «Green Lung» of the Coast

Tramonti is not a single village but a scattered municipality made up of hamlets nestled in the mountains behind the coast: Polvica, Pucara, Novella, Capitignano, Cesarano, Campinola, Gete, Pietre, and others. Here, you won't find the sea, but rather terraces, vineyards, chestnut groves, and vegetable gardens that have earned the area the nickname «Green Lung of the Amalfi Coast». This unique geography defines the nature of the Treasure Hunt: teams are formed by hamlet, local rivalries are fierce, and the game naturally spreads across the entire municipal territory.

How it works

The format is that of a grand village treasure hunt, played over two consecutive days. Registered teams receive clues and riddles and navigate the town in search of objects and checkpoints, alternating between intellectual challenges, skill tests, and humorous moments that involve the public. Over the years, the event has taken on a theatrical quality: competing teams arrive with their own names, colors, and elaborate sets, even producing dedicated content. The Treasure Hunt is not an isolated event; it is part of the Tramonti Estate (Tramonti Summer) program, organized by the Municipality of Tramonti in collaboration with the Pro Loco Tramonti and numerous local associations. In 2026, the program runs from late July to early September, featuring concerts in the hamlets, entertainment evenings, and the town's major food and wine events: the Wine Nights on August 10th, the 35th Wine and Traditions Festival in Gete on August 11th and 12th, the traditional Pizza Night in Pietre on August 13th and 14th, and the «Namasté Praiano a Tramonti» yoga and meditation festival from September 4th to 6th. Those arriving for the Treasure Hunt will find a full week of festivities immediately following the event.

Why it's worth the trip

Attending the Treasure Hunt means seeing Tramonti from the inside, during one of the few moments of the year when the entire community—children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly—comes together for the same game. It is also an excellent excuse to head inland from the coast and discover a side of the Amalfi Coast defined by wineries, bakeries, ancient churches, and mountain trails, far removed from the seaside postcards of Amalfi and Positano. August evenings at this altitude are cooler, prices are more reasonable, and the hospitality remains authentically local.

The game takes place on the streets and along paths connecting distant hamlets: comfortable shoes and a flashlight are practically mandatory, as is some patience for parking, which is limited in the hamlets.
