The civic celebration of June 2nd in San Polo d'Enza
On June 2nd, the anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic, the Municipality of San Polo d'Enza, in the Province of Reggio Emilia, organizes a celebration that goes far beyond the formal ceremony. In the evocative gardens of the Castle and in the central Piazza Sartori, the municipal administration brings to life an event deeply felt by the community, capable of uniting historical memory, civil commitment, and the participation of the youngest.
The most anticipated and symbolic moment of the day is the handover of the Constitution of the Republic to the boys and girls who have reached the age of majority. Receiving the constitutional charter on Republic Day means, for the new 18-year-olds of San Polo d'Enza, entering fully into the democratic life of the Country. The ceremony is enhanced by speeches from civil and military authorities of the area and the presence of the local ANPI (National Association of Italian Partisans), which preserves the memory of the Resistance and the anti-fascist values on which the Republic is founded.
The celebration is not limited to the official ceremony: the day opens with an activity dedicated to young people, invited to discover the numerous Volunteer Associations active in the municipal territory. It is a concrete way to show the new adults that citizenship is exercised every day, through solidarity and commitment to the community. In recent years, the direct involvement of young people in the organization has made the event even more vibrant and participatory.
Admission is free and the invitation is extended to all citizens, families, and children. At the end of the ceremony, a collective aperitif transforms the square into a place of meeting and conviviality, where different generations come together to celebrate. In San Polo d'Enza, a small municipality in the Reggio Apennines overlooking the Enza river valley, Republic Day is thus much more than a date on the calendar: it is an opportunity to reaffirm the civic identity of the town and the sense of belonging to the community.
The 2026 edition, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, saw the collaboration of young people from the local committee in organizing the event, enriched by participatory and engaging moments. The ceremony reaffirmed the value of the Constitution as the foundation of democratic life and renewed the dialogue between institutions and the new generations of San Polo d'Enza.
The 2026 edition, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Republic, was also made possible thanks to the valuable participation of young people from the local committee, who collaborated in the creation of the event, enriching it with participatory moments.
San Polo d'Enza can be reached by car from Reggio Emilia along the SP513 (Val d'Enza) in about 25 minutes. The ceremony takes place in the Castle gardens and in Piazza Sartori, in the town center.
The event is held on the afternoon of June 2nd, starting at 4:30 PM. Participation is completely free and open to all.
