Every third Sunday of the month, antiques and modern items around the Rocca Sanvitale
The Fontanellato Antique Market is a regular event that takes place every third Sunday of the month, all year round. In the heart of the medieval village of Fontanellato, in the Province of Parma (Emilia-Romagna), the historic center comes alive from the early morning hours: exhibitor stalls are set up over an area of about 6,000 square meters, spanning the squares, streets, and characteristic arcades surrounding the majestic Rocca Sanvitale, the castle with a moat still full of water that houses the famous camera obscura and frescoes by Parmigianino.
With a history spanning over thirty years, the Fontanellato market is considered one of the most important and prestigious in Northern Italy. It attracts collectors, enthusiasts, and curious visitors from all over the peninsula. Depending on the edition, there can be over a hundred exhibitors, and on busier days, this number increases significantly. The merchandise allowed, according to municipal regulations, is that which falls under the category of antiques and books on art, antiques, and collectibles.
Variety is the hallmark of this market: you can stroll among antique furniture, paintings, pocket and wall clocks, Art Nouveau lamps, late 19th-century ceramics and porcelain, glassware and crystal, silverware and jewelry, coins and vintage magazines, rare books and collectible prints, vinyl records, black and white photographs, and modern items. Alongside sought-after pieces, you'll also find curiosities and small treasures for every budget, in an atmosphere where the scent of old paper mingles with the charm of the village.
A visit to the market is also an opportunity to discover Fontanellato and its flavors. On market days, you can visit the Rocca Sanvitale with guided tours, relax in the town's cafes, and taste the specialties of the Bassa Parmense: Parma cured meats, aged cheeses, torta fritta, and local wines. The event is organized by the Municipality of Fontanellato, with the IAT information point at the Rocca Sanvitale.
The Fontanellato Antique Market returns in 2026 with its twelve monthly editions, all on Sundays. The confirmed dates are:
On all editions, the hours are continuous, from 7:30 AM until approximately 6:30 PM, with stalls set up around the Rocca Sanvitale and along the arcades of the historic center.
As it is an antique market, there is no schedule of performances: the "program" is the tried-and-tested formula that repeats in each edition.
On market days, the village also offers cafes, restaurants, and gastronomic specialties of the Bassa Parmense.
