An evening of folk music and dance from five continents in the heart of Cefalù

The International Folklore Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Cefalù, a Norman gem overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily. The event brings folk groups from around the world to the city, performing in traditional costumes with authentic music and dances, offering the audience a journey through the cultures of five continents.
For one evening, the streets and squares of the medieval village are filled with the colors, scents, and rhythms of distant lands. Past editions have featured groups from Colombia, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, and Serbia, each showcasing their own repertoire of traditional songs and choreography. The show typically unfolds in two parts: an initial performance in the historic center in the late afternoon, and the grand evening show on the Lungomare Giardina, a scenic promenade overlooking the sea.
The festival is more than just entertainment; it is an opportunity for cultural exchange and friendship between peoples, values at the heart of international folklore gatherings. The dances, handmade costumes, and traditional instruments tell the story of each group's identity, bringing the public closer to customs and intangible heritage that deserve to be known and preserved.
The event is part of the rich summer program of the Municipality of Cefalù, which offers concerts, theater performances, festivals, and major traditional celebrations like the Feast of the Most Holy Savior between July and August. The setting is the incomparable backdrop of one of Sicily's most beautiful towns, dominated by the Rocca and the famous UNESCO-listed Norman Cathedral.
Admission to the shows is free, making the festival an ideal choice for families, tourists, and residents alike. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a visit to the village and a stroll along the promenade with an evening of folk music and dance.
The 2026 edition of the International Folklore Festival in Cefalù is anticipated as part of the city's summer program. At the moment, the dates and the 2026 program have not yet been officially announced: details regarding participating folk groups and schedules will be communicated by the organizers closer to the event. Traditionally, the event takes place in August, featuring free performances in the historic center and on the Lungomare Giardina.
Cefalù is served by the railway station on the Palermo-Messina line, with frequent connections. By car, it is accessible via the A20 Palermo-Messina motorway (Cefalù exit). The nearest airport is Palermo "Falcone-Borsellino" (approximately 70 km away).
The performances are held in the historic center and on the Lungomare Giardina, both within walking distance of the town center. In summer, it is recommended to park in the areas outside the restricted traffic zone of the historic center.
Admission to the shows is free. It is advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot along the route of the evening performances.
