Nativity scenes from all over Italy and the world in the Cathedral Crypt
The International Exhibition of Nativity Scene Art in Città di Castello (province of Perugia) is considered among the most complete and varied in Italy. Set up in the evocative Crypt of the Cathedral Basilica, covering an area of about 500 square meters, it annually gathers over 170 works from dozens of Italian and foreign exhibitors.
On display are masterpieces that reinterpret the Nativity through the techniques, materials, and styles of the best nativity scene schools: from the Neapolitan tradition to that of Catania, through Tuscany, Lazio, and Umbria, alongside international works and important private collections. There are also large monumental nativity scenes, dioramas, and thematic sections that change from year to year.
The exhibition opens between late November and remains open until January 6th, accompanying the Christmas festivities of Città di Castello. It is part of the broader city Christmas program, representing one of the most beloved cultural events for families and enthusiasts. An opportunity to discover the art of the nativity scene and, at the same time, the beauty of Città di Castello's historic center.
The new edition of the International Exhibition of Nativity Scene Art will once again set up the Crypt of the Cathedral Basilica of Città di Castello between late November 2026 and January 6, 2027, for the Christmas holidays. As tradition dictates, over 170 works are expected from dozens of Italian and foreign exhibitors, featuring the best nativity scene schools (Naples, Catania, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria), international works, and private collections. The exhibition is part of the city's Christmas program.
The program and thematic sections for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Municipality of Città di Castello in the weeks preceding the opening. The usual structure includes:
