The international vintage car rally with a regularity race in the Passeier Valley
The Int. Oldtimer Festival Passeiertal is one of the most anticipated events for historic motoring enthusiasts in South Tyrol. Organized by the Racing Team Meran in collaboration with the Passeier Valley tourist board, the festival transforms the winding roads of the valley and surrounding mountain passes every spring into a stage for mechanical elegance, where vehicles from bygone eras parade through some of the most stunning alpine scenery.
The heart of the event is a regularity race: it is not raw speed that counts, but precision—the ability of the crews to maintain pre-set times and average speeds along a route dotted with timed special stages. This formula rewards experience, coordination between driver and navigator, and deep knowledge of the vehicle, making the competition fascinating for spectators as well.
Each year, the festival attracts dozens of crews not only from South Tyrol and the rest of Italy but also from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, confirming the event's international appeal. The headquarters and most activities are centered in San Leonardo in Passiria/St. Leonhard in Passeier, the main municipality of the valley, located in the Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
The routes traverse some of the area's most famous mountain passes—Giovo, Palade, Mendola, Penserjoch, and the side valleys of the Passeier Valley such as Plan and Pfelders—offering crews kilometers of scenic driving and spectators the chance to admire a true traveling museum of historic automobiles from the roadside.
Alongside the competitive aspect, the festival offers social moments that make it a true community event: the welcome reception for crews, the gala dinner, and the final lunch with the awards ceremony, all hosted at the community hall in San Leonardo in Passiria. For enthusiasts and families coming to watch, it is an opportunity to experience a spring weekend in the Passeier Valley, combining a passion for vintage motors with the discovery of one of the most authentic corners of South Tyrol.
The 16th edition of the Int. Oldtimer Festival Passeiertal brought dozens of crews with vintage cars to the Passeier Valley from May 8th to 10th, 2026. The event, organized by the Racing Team Meran and the local tourist board, was fully booked well in advance, a testament to the prestige the event has achieved in the South Tyrolean historic motoring scene. The program alternated between timed special stages along the passes and side valleys and social moments for crews and the public, concluding with a lunch and awards ceremony in San Leonardo in Passiria.
The regularity race is the heart of the event: the winner is the one who comes closest to the pre-set times and average speeds in the timed stages, not the fastest driver.
The festival is centered in San Leonardo in Passiria/St. Leonhard in Passeier (Passeier Valley, Province of Bolzano). The race routes wind along the valley roads and surrounding alpine passes; the reception, gala dinner, and awards ceremony are held at the San Leonardo community hall.
From Merano, head up the Passeier Valley along the SS44 road to San Leonardo (approx. 20 km). The valley is connected to Merano by public bus; a private car is recommended for following the special stages.
Participation is reserved for crews registered through the Racing Team Meran (limited spots, registration often closes early). Info: Racing Team Meran, www.rtmeran.com; Passeier Valley Tourist Board, tel. +39 0473 656188, [email protected].
